Apollo Overcomes Adversity to Become Advocate for Victims of Animal Abuse

In January 2015, we heard about a dog who was severely abused. Apollo, as he would be called, was missing half of his face.

Adore Houston received a please from a local landfill employee about a poor pup was sitting on the side of the road in the bushes guarding his deceased companion.

Adore Houston immediately rushed on over, but they were all stunned to see his condition. After a few minutes of gaining his trust, they were able to coax him into letting them put a leash around his neck.

They rushed him to the vet, where upon further inspection, it was determined that his wounds were most likely inflicted by a human. His nasal cavity was exposed and he was emaciated. This is possibly one of the worst cases of abuse they had ever seen.

By March, Apollo received facial reconstructive surgery, which resulted in removing his upper incisors and 1 canine. His surgical journey did not end there. He tore his ACL and needed that repaired as well. While recovering from his ACL surgery, he also completed heart worm treatment.

Apollo’s strength and spirit continues to inspire all of us. He has overcome every obstacle thrown in his path and continues to amaze us with his unconditional love of those who gain his trust. With his infectious smile, goofy walk, and tail that looks like magic wand when he wags it, everyone is truly feel blessed to have Apollo in our lives.

Today, Apollo continues his journey by serving as an advocate of victims of animal abuse and cruelty. He has been spotted around Houston at holiday drives to raise funds for victims of abuse and at cruelty awareness events.
