Her ears feel like rawhide, her nose has fallen off, she has bones visible through open sores, she could not sit up, and she is paralyzed. I am in tears writing this. I cannot begin to imagine the pain baby Lotus is in. We received a plea from Little League Rescue to raise the funds needed for her care. We knew we needed to step in immediately to help this tiny girl.
LLRS rushed Lotus to the Emergency Room for life saving care. We have created the “You and Me” shirt and totes to help us raise the funds needed for her surgery and care. She was placed on fluids and pain medications to stabilize her.
Lotus was surrendered to LLRS in this condition. Little is known about her past all we can do is speculate her abuse. Her body was so depleted which means that it only took care of ONLY the most vital organs to keep her alive. This meant that her ears and nose had shriveled up and fallen off.
With Lotus' nose gone, the nasal cavity started healing restricting her airway. This has turned into a life or death situation. Rescuers contacted a specialist surgeon from U.C. Davis who can rebuild her face enough for her to breath normally. Unfortunately, it comes at a high cost with a quote for her lifesaving nasal reconstructive surgery at $5000-$6500. This would include: blood work, pre operative care, scoping, CT scan, surgical procedure, and postoperative care. It's a good feeling to know that they are confident in their skill but scary because the only other alternative is death.
UPDATE : Lotus is not having her best day today. Please continue to share her fundraiser and send lots of good vibes her way! Yesterday we had an OK day, miss Lotus even had a short outing yesterday on a borrowed wheelchair. It wasn't a great fit but it kept us up right :) Today we are back to see Dr. Monica for some more blood work and we will continue to share once she has surgery.
UPDATE 6-4-17: Lotus had a good visit with her Doctor yesterday. They redid some blood work, CBC had an elevated WBC count which indicates an infection though she has been on antibiotics since she came. The chemistry was within normal limits: normal T-4, Ehrlichia came back with a low pos but does not require treatment and a valley fever is still pending. Dr Monika also removed her rubber catheter and replaced it with one slightly larger. Rescuers are hoping that with them keeping her nasal airway open it will heal around the catheter and not close entirely. Her wounds are about half the size they where and she still is paralyzed but who knows maybe we will be able to look into why she is paralyzed .
This is where we desperately need your help. We have partnered with Little League Rescue and Sanctuary to raise the donations needed for Lotus' surgeries. Together we have created the Lotus shirts, sweaters and totes to raise the funds needed for her care. Purchase yours today. We have made a promise to this innocent angel that we will not stop, no matter what, until she is safe and healed. We promise you she will never feel pain again but we need your help!
Little League Rescue & Sanctuary is an organization in southern Arizona that changes the fate of homeless animals. The volunteer-run rescue lifts the animals out of the shelter system, placing them instead in loving, temporary foster homes. Many of these animals are ill, injured, or suffering from malnourishment, so we attain the necessary medical care to return them to health. Every animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Loving foster parents, Veterinarians, and an certified animal behaviorist help them overcome physical and psychological issues to again be healthy, happy pets ready for their permanent homes.
