Someone walking through a park in Orange County, CA head a dog crying out in pain. When they found him he was bleeding and crying with his neck torn wide open. This poor doxie mix puppy, Wolfie, was found in a park known to be a site where coyotes congregate. He was most likely dumped there.
After having survived this attack, he had another hurdle to clear. He was sent to Orange County Shelter where he was given less than a day to find a solution because of the impending Holiday, OR he was to be put to sleep…
Tamara Pitman of Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles stated, “The shelter would not release him to our rescue unless a foster could be found with no dogs who lived in Orange County who would keep him for a six month quarantine period. The shelter rejected our two candidates, but agreed to take him to our vet for emergency surgery to stabilize him.”
Wolfie is in critical condition. He is alert and eating. He's still very scared but that's to be expected after his terrifying ordeal. The drains remain but he's progressing.
DRLA said, “We are still in need of donations for Wolfie. We have an extensive vet bill. Additionally we have to meet the requirements set forth by the shelter. Currently, we have no foster so we will have to board him at the vet which could be as long as 6 months. Please help us help Wolfie.”
We hope for financial help to not only pay his medical bills and quarantine boarding, but get him behavioral training to work through his fear of other dogs, which may have been caused by the attack.
Wolfie has a long and difficult uphill battle ahead. To say we need your help us an understatement. We have created this campaign with DRLA to help raise the funds needed for Wolfie care and recovery. Please, if you can, purchase one of his tees, hoodies, dog apparel and bracelets to help Wolfie in his recovery. We cannot save him without you.
Dachshund Rescue LA aims to reduce the number of dachshunds euthanized in local shelters and find permanent homes for homeless dogs.
