Hero died last night.
Our friends at Dallas DogRRR have lost a very special pup named Hero. His name was fitting. He was a hero for so many other dogs who came into the rescue. It is with such devastation that we inform everyone today that Hero passed away late at night unexpectedly.
I have a message from his rescuers. “There is not a dry eye in our rescue this morning, we all loved this deserving, soulful, magnificent dog very very much. Rescue can be be very manic, there are very high highs and believe me the lowest of the lows. The low part of this is that Hero lived a shit life for the first 8 years on this earth tied up outside where he baked in the sun day in and day out getting eaten alive by bugs and worms. When his "owner" was arrested he was confiscated and hidden in a small rural kill shelter in a back room with the lights off not available for adoption...they were to put him asleep immediately. He was a mess, his white fur was black from being eaten alive by fleas, he had a tumor the size of a tangerine on his foot, a painful ear infection, strong heartworm positive, a hack job on his ears and tail etc.... “
He deserved to be called HERO because throughout the upcoming months he became various peoples HERO. Eventually he found his forever home in New Jersey with an amazing couple and a new little brother Yorkie. Life was good for Hero for almost 7 months of bliss, the saddest dog Dallas DogRRR found Patti had ever laid eyes on finally had a wonderful family.
Patti wrote, “In the past 48hr out of nowhere he began to decline and he could not recover from it. Hero was taken from us all too soon and we are blessed and grateful for his amazing family that shared many laughs with this beautiful masterpiece of a dog, a voluptuous masterpiece… God Bless you Hero, we love you so much and I wish we had the chance to give you 8 more beautiful years of sleeping on the couch and passing Gas. There will always be one and only Hero”
Please share Hero's legacy far and wide. He did not deserve to suffer at the hands of his abuser. Now more than ever Dallas DogRRR need your support and your love. Losing a loved one like Hero is so hard. If you can donate here, if you can share his story. We are so greatful that he got to feel love even if it was only a few months. We love you Hero.
