You May Have Taken My Leg But Not My Heart.
Union Springs, Bullock County, AL: A truck pulled up in the parking lot and a man got out. He drug a lifeless dog across the parking lot and left her there. Removing her collar before leaving her there to die. He did this in the early morning knowing the shelter was closed. What he didn't know was that this was caught on a surveillance camera.
At first Hope’s prognosis was not good. She was septic from bite wounds... left untreated for at least a week. One of her legs was basically a huge puss pocket from infection. She couldn't even hold up her head. She couldn’t even stand… Emergency vet staff said she followed them around with her eyes and that she wanted to live.
First, she received a plasma transfusion. Hope had X-rays ran of her head, neck, heart, lungs, and legs. Her left front leg was the one with the major infection. Once she was stabilized, that leg had to be amputated because the infection has literally rotted to her bone.
Now, about the man who was caught on camera dragging her body across the parking lot. The Union Springs Police Department did NOT press animal abuse charges. Stating there was not enough evidence. This happens 99% of the time and is a frustrating part of animal rescue. The good news is Hope is alive and and completely recovered from her ordeal.
Anyone wondering what "Hope the miracle dog" is up to these days??
Here is a little taste of her life living with her doggie friend Rocky in their loving home. They love to wrestle and play. Hope can get comfortable anywhere but has been known to sleep in her new mom's bed!
