Bigote: Found on the Streets in Gruesome Condition
Bigote, which means mustache in Spanish, is in gruesome condition. He lived his life banished to the streets. His rotting flesh is infected and he is infested with fleas and ticks.
He is gentle and forgiving and needs your support. Bigote needs bloodwork, cytology and most likely start an antibiotic regimen for any tick borne diseases. His raw wound is painful, his necrotic flesh was falling off to the ground and the stench is rancid.
Bigote is receiving IV fluid, vitamin booster therapies and antibiotic treatment to combat anemia and erlichiosis to improve his kidney values. His levels need to improve in order to begin chemotherapy. Blood tests confirm erhlichia and severe anemia. He required a transfusion to give his organs support from shutting down.
Bigote is fighting for his life at the hospital. We know these images are graphic but this is the reality Bigote is facing. Near & Far Animal Foundation specializes in saving cases like Bigote. Right now the doctors main focus is on getting him stable and strong enough to start chemotherapy. The good news is his emergency vet was able to clean the wound and with debridement was able to remove all of the infection tissue.
IMPORTANT UPDATE ON HIS CARE! If you remember I shared Bigote with you after being found with half of his face rotting away. First, rescuers needed to stabilize him and he did wonderfully. We were able to help fund his initial emergency care. Now, we are working on covering his chemotherapy because Mr. Bigote is healthy enough to start. He has already come such a long way from when rescuers found him near death. I know his wound looks horrific but if you remember what he looked like before this is a HUGE improvement. The wound has already started closing but the chemotherapy will be what Bigote needs to fully heal and stop the cancer!
We created the I Saved An Animal Ring and Bracelet to help raise the remaining funds for his chemotherapy! Please consider one for yourself or a loved one knowing you helped sponsor Bigote's chemotherapy. I will keep you updated on Bigote's chemotherapy treatment.
