The Faceless Dog Suffering From Head Trauma

They called him the faceless dog. But, rescuers named him Dickens. The tiny 18 pound pup was rushed to the emergency vets for evaluation and treatment. Nobody at the time knew what had happened to Dickens, but they knew he needed help and fast. His face was nonexistent and signs of severe infection was apparent. Immediately, the vets began diagnostics, including x-rays and blood work. The doctors knew that Dickens' face was severely infected and abscessed.

Someone horribly abused Dickens and Doctors suspect major trauma. The radiologist confirmed major trauma to the nasal cavity, with right rib fractures to the rib 6 and 8. He also has a rounding on the head of the spleen, which could be cancer or other causes such as Ehrlichia contributing to the splenic changes.

UPDATE 12/9: Ok friends it's time we ask for your prayers and support. Dickens is headed to his CT scans. Doctors ruled out cancer, but something far worse was in play and this CT scan will give them the answers they need. His doctors continue to say he is a very happy boy always wagging his tail.

UPDATE 12/10: Dicken's CT & Testing show a transmissible venereal cancerous tumor with a major secondary infection. The good news both of these but the bad news if the infection has eaten away the bone matter on his nose. Unfortunately we can not repair the damage but good news is we can reconstruct his skin once we treat the cancer. He will never have a functioning nose but he will be able to function and live a good life. He will breathe using his mouth and as long as he responds well to the antibiotics and chemotherapy.

UPDATE 12/23: Dickens is here at his foster home! What a sweetheart he is. He has a happy tail, loves to be pet and enjoys a good meal. Oh yeah, and treats too. He’s settled in nicely and in the first 15 minutes was happily laying on his new bed and playing with some soft stuffy toys. Yes, he does have eyes and he can see, however due to the swelling in his face he probably doesn’t see very well. That should improve as the swelling goes down and the infection clears. He has a long way to go so prayers and donations will be appreciated.
