Anise: Transported From Peru, Adopted by Her Transporter

Anise: Transported From Peru, Adopted by Her Transporter

In May, we introduced you to Anise. When rescued from the streets of Peru, Anise was in critical condition. She was infested with fleas and ticks, covered in scabies and severely anemic. Worst of all, her eyes were full of puss and her skin was completely raw.

Thankfully, Near and Far Animal Foundation intervened to give Anise a second chance. Rescuers focused on addressing each of her medical issues and Anise started to show signs of progress. Slowly, she began to eat, move around more and heal from her ailments.

But, then rescuers faced another daunting reality. The CDC imposed new importation requirements effective July 14th.

Rescuers at Near and Far Animal Foundation knew they needed to get Anise out of Peru and into the United States before the deadline.

Carla, founder at Near and Far Animal Foundation, immediately asked Hendrick and Co. for assistance to raise the funds for the transport and to hopefully identify transporters.

After multiple newsletters and posts on social media, several Hendrick & Co. supporters responded to our calls to action. Sadly, the attempts to help fell apart, mainly due to Covid restrictions at their places of work. Rescuers at Near and Far felt defeated.

We made one last effort to identify a flight volunteer. When all thought that hope was lost, William stepped up to offer assistance.

Near and Far Animal Foundation immediately went into high gear to make their promise a reality.

William went down to Peru and brought back 3 of the rescued dogs, including Anise, to the United States before the deadline.

The most amazing part of this story is that William adopted Anise.

Near and Far Animal Foundation wrote, "We must thank our dear friend David Hendrickson and Hendrick & Co. for shouting our pups’ plea out...This is what the world needs more of! Pure kindness and being part of making others lives better. And in the end, we then are the lucky ones to have been a part of something magical."

A special thanks to Near And Far Animal Foundation for their unrelenting effort to save Anise and to find a way to get her to the U.S., to all of you for sharing our calls to action to get Anise to the U.S. and especially to William for getting 3 dogs out of Peru and giving Anise her forever home.
