This is one of those times that I can sit back and know we won! And getting a win in animal rescue is rare. A few weeks ago we introduced you to 3 dogs we took on with the Near and Far Animal Foundation. Anise, Nala and Olivia were all found in deplorable condition in Peru. We knew NAFAF needed to get these dogs out of Peru but it was going to take a miracle.
When Anise was found she was searching for anything to fill her empty belly including trash! She was infested with fleas and ticks, covered in scabies and severely anemic.
Nala was the street dog who was found after one of her legs were chopped off. Yes, chopped off. Rescuers desperately needed to get her to the states so she can be fitted for a prosthetic and give her the best quality of life.
Olivia is another street dog who, without help, would have suffered a horrible death in the streets of Peru. I was overwhelmed with the thought of getting all 3 dogs on a flight to the US for Near and Far before it was too late.
This past week, the CDC announced it will suspend the import of dogs from more than 100 countries where rabies still spreads among dogs. In light of the most recent announcement of CDC restrictions, Near and Far Animal Foundation was frantic over trying to get them out before the July 14th deadline. If not, these 3 dogs would not be allowed to enter the US.
After meeting with Near and Far Animal Foundation, we teamed up to get Anise, Nala and Oliver on a flight. We sent out a plea on Facebook and asked our followers to help. We told them we were desperate and without their help, these 3 dogs would never make it to the states. One of our amazing supporters William did something that no one else would… he stood up to fly all 3 dogs.
With the purchase of the Save Anise/Nala products, with the help of our supporter William and with the entire Near and Far Animal Foundation team, we were able to welcome these 3 dogs to the United States. This took a village and we cannot thank William enough for getting these babies here.
I was attacked on facebook by a woman who ended up calling me an "idiot" for saving an animal in Peru and it brought me to tears. She said stop saving dogs from other countries and it was demoralizing BUT I am not going to stop! I refuse to give up!
We are going to continue supporting these 3 dogs and Near and Far Animal Foundation so Anise, Nala and Olivia can continue to get the care they deserve until they find their forever homes! Thank you for being part of this life changing experience and for always supporting us and our mission!
