Alabama Tornado Animal Relief
Lee County Alabama was hit by a devastating EF4 tornado killing 23 people and countless pets. This is the 6th most deadly tornado in US history! Authorities say there is little hope of finding people or pets still alive in the rubble.
The Lee County Humane Society and Lee County Animal Control are overwhelmed with homeless pets being brought in, as well as animals with severe injuries sustained during the tornado. The rescue and recovery efforts are just beginning. Volunteers and rescuers have found an incredible amount of animals who have lost their lives and families who have lost everything, including precious pets. Rescue teams are on the ground helping families search for their missing pets.
Lee County is an extremely low income county with very few resources. The shelter is already crowded with animals in need of immediate medical care. This means the shelter is so full with stray animals that there is no room left for the pets displaced by the tornado. Some of these displaced pets have severe injuries.
There is several ways you can help. Our partners at Second Chance Rescue NYC is assisting with relocation of the many stray animals. Second Chance Rescue NYC is working directly with The Lee County shelter to provide aid for their overcrowded and overwhelmed shelter. SCR NYC has already committed to helping 2 dogs from Lee County who are in need or urgent care. A 7-month old puppy named Juice and a 2-year old terrier named Bacon-Bits. Both of which need immediate medical care and fostering.
Second Chance Rescue NYC also sent out an emergency plea for fosters to relocate more strays out of Lee County giving room for the pets of families who have lost their homes and have no place for their beloved furry family member. If you can help to foster a displaced animal from Lee County, Alabama please fill out a foster application at nycsecondchancerescue.org.
Another way to help is by purchasing one of the Alabama Animal Relief products.
