Alex is looking for a Holiday Miracle.
Help this is urgent. I wish we had a break from the abuse and neglect during the holidays but in animal rescue it never stops.
Second Chance Rescue volunteers received a call from the NYC shelter, asking them to help with a critical puppy. We have a great deal of experience with dogs who are suffering with mange, but nothing could prepare us for the absolutely horrific condition of baby Alex. This poor boy who is only 3 months old, literally shivering in pain, just put all of us in tears.
His tiny paws are swollen to 3x the normal size, due to severe inflammation. The doctors explained that they had to increase his dosage of pain medication, as he was literally screaming when they were trying to give him a medicated bath. His body is covered in bloody scabs, and he has severe secondary infections, due to the mange. Mange is a treatable condition, however if not addressed, can be deadly. The doctor explained that Alex is one of the most severe cases they have come across.
The road to recovery is going to be a long one for Baby Alex. He will be hospitalized for weeks, while he is under the direct care of doctors 24-7. We jut can not understand how anyone could neglect a sweet puppy like Alex. He needs all the prayers and positive vibes that you can send him. We also could really use support with his medical care.
If you could help with Alex’s extensive vetting, we would greatly appreciate it. We have stepped in to help in our own little way. We have created the Animal Abuse Awareness shirts, hoodies, totes and bracelets you see below. We ask that if you would consider one of these items for your Christmas gift list. It's a great gift to give to family and friends and you get to tell them they helped save Alex’s life.
Alex is receiving around the clock 24 hour care. His condition is absolutely heartbreaking, as his skin is a raw bloody mess. He was not doing so well, and he has now come down with pneumonia, due to his weakened immune system. This poor little guy can not catch a break, and seeing him cry and whimper in pain, hurts your heart to the core. He is just a baby, and he shouldn’t have to go through so much pain! He has a long road to recovery, but with your help he can survive this abuse.

It was just a few weeks ago that we were asked to help this critical puppy who was suffering immensely with a horrific skin infection and pneumonia from the New York City Animal Care Center. After a lengthy Hospital stay, Baby Alex is flourishing in his foster home. This is what it’s all about folks.
Is this the same Alex we saw in December? It is hard to imagine that this dog has come so far in a matter of weeks.
