Barkley is a possible bait dog out of Texas.
Possible bait dog! Barkley suffered for days without any help. Dallas Dog RRR immediately rushed to the shelter and transported Barkley to the ER. They don’t know why or how he was attacked so horribly, but we now know his wounds are old and have already become necrotic but he is stable.
Barkley is still fighting! He doesn’t have any broken bones, but his wounds are infected and his WBCs are elevated. He is in shock and remains sedated so the medical staff turns/flips his body for him. The wounds are focused and most severe on the head, face, neck and ear. There are several punctures on his leg and elbow causing a large amount of swelling.
Otherwise his blood work looks good and he’s under 24 hour care and monitored to make sure he is getting better and that the infection doesn’t become septic. He is on many different medications including pain management.
Barkley was left for dead beside a wall for days. Did anyone see him, or did someone see him and walk away? What type of society have we become, when this is the norm? We have to do better. We have to make changes for these animals. They deserve laws to protect them and to have a voice!
His care will costs in the thousands for Dallas Dog RRR we are here to help. We have created the “Never Stop Saving Animals” t-shirts, totes, water bottles and more to help raise the funds for Barkley’s care. Please consider one for yourself or a friend.
UPDATE 10/25/19: Barkley update, he is slowly making progress. He is eating on his own and a little more alert. His right ear is damaged beyond repair and will need to have TECA (Total ear canal ablation). Barkley was attacked before coming into the shelter it suspected to either be a dog right or possible bait dog. Please continue to support Barkley and Dallas Dog RRR.
UPDATE 11/5/19: After two weeks of hospitalization Barkley is finally in foster care and here is what she has to say about him! Sweet sweet Barkley has been busted out of the Vets and is now ready for some spoiling. He is the kindest, most gentle soul. Truly a gem of a dog and blows us away with how forgiving he is with what all he’s been through. Shows zero aggression toward any other living soul, and just wants to be loved. He still has a few hurdles to cross but he’s well on his way to recovery.
