Bella was sold by a breeder with hydrocephalus.
We have created this product campaign to help raise the funds needed to save a puppy sold with Hydrocephalus by a backyard breeder.
Last night the Troy Animal Rescue Project took in a tiny Pomeranian puppy. A family had bought her from a breeder in Atlanta, GA. The breeder sold Bella at only four weeks old. She barely has teeth coming in. Worst yet, she has hydrocephalus - a condition where fluid accumulates on her brain. This is what causes her high forehead and crossed eyes. Without treatment, Bella’s condition is terminal. The Troy rescue team stepped in to save her life but they need your help.
Bella’s first vet appointment was today at Troy Animal Clinic. She received her first puppy vaccines. Her fecal test showed hookworms so she was treated for those. She was also treated for fleas. She was covered with them. Sweet girl only weighs 1.7 lbs. Doctors refereed Bella to the University of Mississippi Specialty Vet Clinic in Starksville, MS. She will be evaluated for surgery and will have a CT scan done.
UPDATE 11-13-18: Bella has been evaluated by Dr. Beasley, a Veterinary neurologist. After imaging tests, it was found that Bella unfortunately has quite a severe case of hydrocephalus. There are three courses of treatment that are being explored - but none of the courses of treatment will cause her head to reduce in size. Her skull has actually formed around the fluid so she will always have a very pronounced forehead. Bella thankfully has vision (although limited) and relatively good motor skills. Due to this, her rescuers at TARP are exploring a non surgical option.
UPDATE 11-15-18: Bella will be put on medications to help her brain produce less fluid and to help the fluid to subside some. It is not a complete cure - but it is medical management.
UPDATE 11-19-18: Quick update. Bella wants to thank everyone who helped her get to the neurologist at Mississippi State! She is back at her medical foster home and settled in for the night. We will keep everyone updated on her test results and progress. Bella will be evaluated again in four weeks. If she has developed new symptoms or her current symptoms worsen, doctors will explore surgical options.
UPDATE 12-3-18: We had to share this update with you and photo of baby Bella. Her foster mommy said she was mad because she had to have a bath - but you can’t take her seriously because she looks like a teddy bear. Her swelling has gone done a little. #BellaBeatsHydrocephalus
The estimated costs for her appointment is $800-1200. We need your help to help Bella. She is so tiny and sweet. She deserves the chance at a normal life. Please consider purchasing one of her products you see below to help raise the funds for her care. With every purchase you can help rescuers give this baby girl the care she deserves.
