Blueberry's face was ripped off her skull.
This is urgent. I am sorry in advance for the graphic nature of this case but we must show what has happened to poor Blueberry. Her face has detached from her skull. We don’t know much at this point. She was picked up as stray by Animal Control. Our partners at Dallas DogRRR knew she would be euthanized at the shelter so they rushed and transporter her to their Emergency Vet. She has major facial damage and de-gloving to muzzle. This case is under investigation but our job is to save her, it’s the authorities job to find out who is responsible for this horrendous act.
We are pleading… no we are begging for your help. This will cost Dallas DogRRR multiple thousands of dollars and that does not include the multiple reconstructive surgeries she will need. Some have said why rescuers did not euthanize her and our answer to that is "Would you euthanize a family member who needs help?" We stand by our partners decision to give everything they can to save her life. We save dogs, it’s what we strive to do, it’s what gets us out of bed in the mornings and wakes us up in the middle of the nite. We believe EACH and EVERY dog deserves a fighting chance.
Blueberry (how cute is that name?) is still swollen from her surgery yesterday but was able to eat being hand fed. She was put on a fluid IV because as you can imagine her jaw is sore but pain meds are being administered. She will also be needing additional surgeries for eye removal and the sutures that are in place are considered temporary to assist in the healing process and stretching of skin. There are so many details with this case that its very overwhelming. But please know she is getting speciality care and 24 hour monitoring but several doctors and techs.
UPDATE 1-30-18 What we were hoping would not happen, “Happened.” The surgery did not hold. Yesterday she had to undergo surgery again to reattach the parts of her face and mouth that did not hold. We are hopeful that this time it will hold. She is continuing to get 24 hour medical care. She is receiving pain management to help control the pain and remains on IV fluids. Please help! This care is extensive and she will need several more surgeries.
UPDATE 2-7-18: Blueberry says “ Good Morning”. You won't believe what she looks like now! Her face and wounds are healing. She is about to be released from the 24 hour hospital and will be headed to a medical a foster. She will need daily hydrotherapy and continued care.
If you could help with her surgeries we would be so grateful. DDRRR simply does not have the funds to cover her enormous care. We have stepped in to help in our own little way. We have created the Animal Abuse Awareness shirts, hoodies, totes and bracelets you see below. We ask that if you would consider one of these items to purchase. It's a great gift to give to family and friends and you get to tell them they helped save Blueberry’s life.
Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal-loving volunteers who support the abandoned dogs of Dallas, Texas, by collecting supplies, paying vet bills, locating foster families, facilitating adoptions, and advocating for a more hopeful future. We are often seen even in the trenches of SE Dallas searching for and rescuing forgotten dogs. We have no administrative fees; no one is on payroll. Every single cent that is donated goes directly to paying for vet bills and food/supplies for our rescued dogs, as well as for boarding (for those that don’t have fosters). We are simply a group of volunteers motivated by the inspiring rescue stories that we get to be a part of every day!
