Champ's abuser put a firecracker in his mouth.
4-9-17: This poor baby was found with half of his face ripped off. The emergency vet said this damage was done from the inside out. Likely his abuser put a firecracker in his mouth and let it explode. Please get a Champ shirt, hoodie or tote here to donate to his Emergency medical care! We are horrified at what has happened to him. Champ was found wandering in a rural area severely injured late yesterday. Rescuers were in complete shock.
Half of Champs face is nearly ripped off. His left nostril is missing and his jaw is shredded. His teeth look like they have been ground down or blasted out.
He is emaciated with his ribs protruding. We cannot bear to think what he has lived through. How much pain, suffering and neglect did he have to endure before he was found. We don't even want to think about it. All we can do now is focus on putting this innocent victim back together again. That is our promise to you Champ.
Champ has been rushed to Dallas Dog RRR’s vet partner where is receiving the critical medical care that he needs. Champ will require multiple major reconstructive surgery to survive this ordeal. The doctors were in shock to see his condition. Everyone is very upset about what poor Champ has endured but they are confident they can save his life, with your help! He does not have anyone else. We are all he has right now.

UPDATE 4-11-17: Rescuers have just dropped Champ to have his first of many reconstructive surgeries to begin the repair of his mouth and nose after they were blown off from having a firecracker put in his mouth! Today is primarily his jaw repair. The temporary stitches the vet put in over the weekend to help close all of the open trauma, were not able to hold for more than a day because of the amount of dead tissue surrounding his jaw.
UPDATE 4-14-17: Once inside it was clear the damage had been done by some sort of explosive because there is a hole blown straight thru his gum line, which is where it seems the object was placed. The photos show the hole and the extensive surrounding trauma. Both of his canines had to be removed as they were fractured from the blow. His gums were repaired but the doctor isn't sure they will hold so he will be going back on Friday for a recheck and possibly get stitched up again.
UPDATE 4-17-17: He went back today for a follow up and the hole in his mouth is healing nicely. It's a bit open but needs to heal more before it can be restitched. His nostril is surprisingly coming together better than expected so we need to have him rechecked next week -- then we know if the nasal cavity is going to need another surgery. He is still no where near recovered. We still desperately need your help!
UPDATE 5-9-17: GOOD NEWS is our big boy is looking like a different dog these days from that first pic we all saw! BAD NEWS is he needs another surgery. The holes on the inside of his mouth aren't healing properly. They look great but one more surgery should close everything for good and then this big lug of love will be ready to find his forever home! He is currently being loved up in his medical foster home in Dallas, TX. We still need your help!
UPDATE 5-18-17: CHAMPS PUPDATE!!!!! Champ had another surgery yesterday.. he had two areas that needed to be closed because they did not heal properly. This should do it. There are still two abscessed areas we are keeping an eye on. We are hopeful they will be fine once the areas that were just closed have healed.
7-11-17: CHAMP HAS BEEN ADOPTED! We are incredibly excited that he has a new chance at life. He will never be abused or hurt again. We love you Champ!
Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal-loving volunteers who support the abandoned dogs of Dallas, Texas, by collecting supplies, paying vet bills, locating foster families, facilitating adoptions, and advocating for a more hopeful future. We are often seen even in the trenches of SE Dallas searching for and rescuing forgotten dogs. We have no administrative fees; no one is on payroll. Every single cent that is donated goes directly to paying for vet bills and food/supplies for our rescued dogs, as well as for boarding (for those that don’t have fosters). We are simply a group of volunteers motivated by the inspiring rescue stories that we get to be a part of every day!
