Chance has been tortured and abused.
Chance has been tortured and abused by cowards. This baby is in horrific condition and was picked up by animal control in Houston TX after several people walked right past him in this condition and did nothing. Chance was rushed to an Emergency Hospital for life saving care but he needs your help!
As you can imagine, Chance has a lot of issues going on. The first issue that the vets are addressing is his body temperature. It was under 95° which is way low, so he has been on heating pads and his temperature is slowly coming up.
Poor boy is just oozing puss and blood all over from abscesses. The vets were unable to draw blood at first due to their inability to find a vein, so they are getting him started on antibiotics and pain meds right away.
On a positive note, even though he is not able to walk, he does pick his head up and is curious to see what is going on around him. When he arrived at the vet he picked up his head and was smelling the air. Despite the pain and torture he has endured he still seeks the rescuers love.
He is just heartbreaking to see and he constantly chews himself. He has chewed so much and for so long that he has a literally worn his teeth down.
He is having a blood transfusion as I write this report. They also discovered that he has a hernia and part of his intestines came out of his body by his testicles. Obviously, he is in no condition for surgery, so the vets are doing all they can to continue to put his intestines back in his body until he's stable enough for surgery.
While this is all hard to see and think about right now, he will receive the best care possible to nurse him back to health. But he need your help! We have no doubt that his transformation will be remarkable!

UPDATE 6-7-17: Rescuers had an ultrasound done of his body last night, and unfortunately, but not surprisingly, he has a high infestation of heartworms. So high that it is likely causing much of his sporadic readings. They may have to do another blood transfusion, but it will just depend and we will have to take it day by day. Now it is just wait and see if his little body is strong enough to get him through the myriad of problems inflicting him that he's suffered for years at the hands of neglect. Doctors had to have a catheter put in yesterday afternoon because he was not totally illuminating his bladder, which caused concern. He's able to get up, but is still very weak.
UPDATE: 6-9-17: Guess who was walking around yesterday and overnight … Chance! While he is still very weak, he got up on his own and wanted to walk around! This is so huge as this is the first time he has taken the initiative to do this on his own! His rescuers, and his vets, are very encouraged! His magnesium level is slowly coming up with the oral supplements and his other values are maintaining. He absolutely loves his clothes and overnight he was sporting a Burberry-like outfit that someone sent for him.
RIP 6-22-17: We have a heartbreaking message from our partners at Scout's Honor Rescue Inc. Founder, Leslie Hillendahl writes"It is with broken hearts that we share that our amazing boy Chance crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge late this afternoon. We take comfort knowing that he is in a better place and pain-free and able to run, play, and be loved like he should have experienced his whole life here."
"Shortly after our earlier post and visit with him, one of the amazing Vergi 24/7 vet techs stopped by to visit him before she left for vacation (the Drs and staff just loved Chance and he knew it!). It was truly a blessing that she was in his run with him loving on him when his breathing became very shallow. No sooner did she she call for a vet to come check him did he take his last breath in her arms. He fought an amazing fight, but his little body was just not strong enough due to the years and years of neglect and his heartworm burden."
"We cannot thank each and everyone of you enough for all of your care, support, prayers, and positive thoughts these past several weeks. We could never commit to rescue dogs like Chance without all of your support. A Huge and very special thank you to Lance McCullers, Jr. and his wonderful The Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation for providing the financial support for us to give Chance the BEST care available.""Because of all of you, Chance experienced love, comfort, safety, and care for at least a few weeks. Run carefree sweet baby boy! You will be in our hearts always ♥️."
Scout's Honor Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-breed/mixed breed dog and cat rescue organization that focuses on rescuing and placing homeless dogs and cats in Houston, Texas and surrounding areas. We are one of the very few rescues that will take in the sick, the injured, the old, the ugly (although we don't think so!) and those that are the most unloved on a regular basis. Scout's Honor was formed in May 2006, and is often the last resort for the homeless and needy animals left abandoned to die in pounds or on the mean streets.
