Chapman was found in a vegetative state, barely alive.
This dog was brought in to the Specialty Clinic by Animal Control in pretty much a vegetative state and in shock. His blood pressure plummeting, respiratory distress, multiple wounds, lacerations, fracture leg, internal bleeding in abdomen, embedded collar, fractured skull, brain swelling, brain bleeding. I waited to share him with you because I wanted to make sure he could make it … and he did!
Not only is he alive, his blood pressure is now stable as are all of his vitals, and he is sitting up. SOMEONE DID THIS TO HIM! There is a very active investigation seeking cruelty charges on this case as we speak, this is being conducted by Fulton County.
His medical team does not leave his side and is doing a wonderful job comforting with him. His doctor put in a urinary catheter in to help him urinate and he is on pain killers while he receives wound care for several of his trauma wounds. His mental appropriateness is getting better and he continues to eat well.
Chapman underwent emergency surgery in an attempt to save one of the front legs. The surgery went well but only time will tell if the nerves are working in that arm. He may still lose the leg. Hopefully our next update will have him walking around. We need your help covering his emergency care.
This type of care is extreme expensive for Second Chance Rescue NYC and we are here to help. We are sponsoring the care of Chapman with one of our “My heart is paved with paw prints.” aprons, pillows, keychains or cups below. Please get yours and help me sponsor Chapman and his life saving surgery.
UPDATE 9/27/19: It's amazing to think just a few weeks he was lateral unable to stand in critical condition. I always assumed he was a black shepherd mix 50 plus pounds. That is not the case! He is a stocky puppy with stubby legs coming in at 35lbs. Chapman is doing so well and is so happy to be moving around. He had his very first dog to dog tests and he passed with flying colors!Chapman still has a ways to go before being able to leave the hospital but his rescuers at Second Chance Rescue NYC will soon be accepting applications! What an amazing update right!!!
