Chio's head is swollen and he was transported to New York City.
Chio was transported from the streets of Puerto Rico and made his was to New York City where he found his new mommy. One bracelet can help save this brave pitbull. As you can see in the photos he desperately needs your help! Chio was rushed straight into ICU in Manhattan. He presented suddenly with extreme swelling near his neck. He seemed lethargic, had trouble walking and his head swelled up to 3 times its normal size.
After many many tests, CT scans, an MRI and blood results Doctors told rescuers heartbreaking news. His biopsy shows he has cancer. He needed emergency surgery and although it is risky given his fragile state doctors had no choice but to perform this surgery.
Yesterday he had lymph node removal surgery to remove the cancerous node. Under surgery doctors say a few other nodes were also compromised. Pathology results will be returned next week to confirm what type of cancer Chio has and the specific course of treatment he should begin. Cancer treatments like chemotherapy will cost rescuers thousands of dollars.
After surgery and CT scan along with several days in ICU the bill is expected to be over $7,000.00. Nonprofits like New York Bully Crew does not have this type of funds. We are asking for your prayers… we are asking for your support. We are sponsoring the cancer treatments Chio needs with the paw print bracelet you see. We ask that you consider purchasing one of the these bracelet to help cover Chio’s cancer treatment.
UPDATE 7-9-19: Swelling is considerably down and the drain was removed. He also has a healthy appetite which is a great sign. Chio spent a few days in ICU in Manhattan after life saving surgery.
UPDATE 7-17-19: Chio is back home with his momma while rescuers wait for his pathology results. Doctors know he has cancer, they just don’t know the type of cancer and the specific treatment plan Chio needs to continue to enjoy his new forever family! But look at his head! The surgery was a success and his head is back to it's normal size. I will update you all as soon as we get his results in.
URGENT UPDATE 10/23/19: Chio emergency hospitalized last night! At 1 am last night Chio’s foster mama reached out concerned that Chio felt like he was burning up and had labored breathing. She immediately had a neighbor carry him down to the street so she could get him to the ER. Bloodwork revealed he has an intense infection, which is an unfortunate side effect of the Paladia he has been on to reduce the size of his tumor in order to attempt to surgically remove it. His weakened immune system makes him very vulnerable and the worst case scenario has arrived. He is still hospitalized and receiving IV antibiotics and fluids to try to stabilize him. After discussions with the ER doctor and our oncologist we may need to alter our plan based on Chio’s reaction to the current treatment. Please PRAY and please!
This emergency care is costing hundreds for New York Bully Crew. You can help sponsor Chio with one of our animal saving products below.
