Davey: Found on the side of the road unable to move
Only 1-2 years old, Davey was found at the side of the road in Clay County, Florida unable to use his front legs. He could only walk a wobbly few steps before planting his face right into the ground.
Davey won the hearts of the shelter staff with his sweetness and Pit Sisters immediately came to pull Davey and take him to the vet and neurological specialist for review.
Vets, at this time, believe that something neurological is wrong with Davey. But, without know his history or if he experienced a traumatic event, nobody knows much at this point without further testing. The vet warned that there may not be anything we can do for him, but Pit Sisters is committed to Davey and doing everything possible to save this boy's life.
Davey remains weak and has suffered significant muscle wasting mainly in the limbs and trunk. The initial exam is most consistent with lower motor neuron and/or neuromuscular problem. But, vets cannot rule out a concurrent or primary spinal cord problem. Vets believe his overall poor condition has been going on for at least 3-6 months.
On top of it all, Davey is mildly anemic, has an elevated white blood count and appears to have some lung disease as well.
If Davey's condition becomes completely non-ambulatory, his prognosis is grave.
Currently, Davey is receiving aquatic physical therapy and his foster mom is working with increasing his mobility. But, much more needs to be done immediately.
Doctors are recommending a radiologist to read his chest radiographs, a clinical test for myasthenia (MG) and potentially muscle/nerve studies, spinal fluid analysis, nerve/muscle biopsy and spinal MRI. These tests will run upwards of $3,000 but are needed to determine how to save Davey.
We have create this campaign to help save Davey and support Pit Sisters' incredible work. With every purchase of a shirt, hoodie, tote or drinkware, you can help save Davey today and give him the second chance he deserves.
