Demi was found completely destroyed from neglect!
I am in tears as I write this. This baby girl had a 50/50 chance of making it. We knew we needed to help.
Last night our partners at the Troy Animal Rescue Project received an urgent call. A dog had shown up at a home in Brundidge, AL that was severely emaciated and covered in sores. The first photos were the photos that the person sent to TARP. Rescuers couldn’t leave her so they rushed to save her life. They transported Demi straight to their emergency vet. Doctors were not prepared for what they saw next.
Demi has a host of health issues. She has démodéx mange. She has major skin infections. Her skin is so bad that you can not touch her without her skin peeling and bleeding. Demi is loaded with intestinal parasites and has been starved for some time. The worst part is Demi has a body of a dyeing senior but in reality she is just 8 months old. Her teeth show signs of past abuse.
The emergency doctor explained that her teeth show signs that she had a very high fever for a long time as a young puppy. Whoever was her owner most likely never gave her proper care. Now Demi’s chances of survival are 50/50 due to the major infections. Demi has fight in her to have survived this long so we are going to fight with her.
UPDATE 4-6-18: Since Demi has been with Troy Animal Rescue, she has almost doubled in weight. The mange and infections have been treated and are a thing of the past. Most of the sores are now healed and some of her hair is beginning to peak out. Demi is still a little shy but she wags her tails and has begun to play. She had no clue what treats were when she first came. Now she looks forward to getting her morning Milkbone. So much has changed for this sweet girl since she was found. Her progress is slow due to how long she was left untreated, but she is steadily getting better and better.
Demi was given a 50/50 chance of survival when we intaked her. She had a will to survive and we were able to fight with her. Demi is one of the many dogs that your donations help to save.
We are here to help rise the funds needed for Demi’s emergency care which will cost in the thousands. To help save Demi please consider purchasing one of her shirts, totes, bracelets and coffee mugs below. We have partnered with TARP to create these animal saving products to raise the funds needed to save her!
