A woman called our partners at Little Lotus Rescue & Sanctuary at 11am yesterday. She left a message saying that there was a dog on her property that “didn't look good.” She explained that the dog was unable to walk and was laying in a ditch. She texted a photo of the dog. Rescuers took one look and rushed to the scene. They were not prepared for what they saw.
They got to women’s house and the temperature at the time was 94 degrees. Volunteers walked up and this poor girl was STILL just lying there in a water filled creek cooking in the heat all day. She is so emaciated that she can not walk, volunteers was shocked when they saw her. I just don't understand people. The dog was still laying in the ditch in the same exact spot from when the women sent the original photo hours before. The dog was located approximately 10 feet from the woman’s front door and a couple of steps from a shed that could have provided much needed relief.
Now, we are just as frustrated as you are that the women did not help this poor baby. Because she said she found the dog there is nothing authorities can do. But, we must now focus on saving her life. For that we need your help.
Things are not looking good. This poor girl is extremely critical. She had a seizure last night and is not doing well. She has had blood work done, is on IV fluid therapy, pain management, and a re-feeding program. Her glucose was 4 times higher than the maximum glucose level for a dog and is currently being managed through insulin. She is in liver and kidney failure. With all of these problems, we are not sure if they are acute or chronic because we do not know her history. She could have been living with these problems for years OR these could all be a result of her unbelievable neglect.
Her prognosis is very poor. Our goal right now is to help her understand that she can be loved even if its the only time she's felt this. Will you help us?
This is where we are asking for your help!
UPDATE 8-13-17: Bray got to see Dr Monika yesterday to redo her blood work. Her rescuer's feelings are mixed about the results. Her kidneys have stabilized but the liver is still extremely high along a couple of off other values. Today her glucose wouldn't read that's how high it was but she ate and drank some on her own. Please keep Bray in your thoughts. She and Little Lotus Rescue still desperately need your help!

Little Lotus Rescue & Sanctuary is an organization in southern Arizona that changes the fate of homeless animals. The volunteer-run rescue lifts the animals out of the shelter system, placing them instead in loving, temporary foster homes. Many of these animals are ill, injured, or suffering from malnourishment, so we attain the necessary medical care to return them to health. Every animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Loving foster parents, Veterinarians, and an certified animal behaviorist help them overcome physical and psychological issues to again be healthy, happy pets ready for their permanent homes.
