Elijah was given 24 hours to find a rescue before shelter staff would have to put him to sleep.
We have created this tee shirt campaign to help raise the funds needed to save a dog who was attacked at the city shelter.
Warning this case of abuse has some graphic images. A dog who was a shelter favorite, Elijah had his mouth ripped off. Understandably, we can't share the video of the other dog ripping off his mouth, it is far too graphic.
Overnight the shelter surveillance cameras saw Elijah break out of his kennel to go say "Hello" to one of the dogs. He approached the dog's kennel with soft body language and his wiggle butt shaking it hard. He pressed his face against the kennel to say hi and the dog violently grabbed his face and attacked him, ripping off his mouth. The shelter staff walked in to what looked like a murder scene in the morning.
Again, I know this is graphic but please don’t turn away. He does need us. There is possible damage to his bone structure but rescuers will not know until all of his results come in. They do know Elijah will need reconstruction surgery.
The shelter gave Elijah 24 hours to find a rescue.Thankfully Second Chance Rescue NYC stepped in to save Elijah. He was rushed straight to the emergency vets. At the vets staff said despite everything he still wants to say hi to all of the other dogs.
His previous owner kept him chained outside for his entire life. Second Chance Rescue NYC needs our help in raising funds to cover his extensive emergency care and future surgery. This is going to cost rescues thousands of dollars.
I know you will support rescuer’s decision in saving Elijah’s life. He will survive this and thrive in his new life.
To help with all of the specialty care and vetting for Elijah please consider purchasing one of his shirts, hoodies or coffee mugs below. With every purchase you can help Second Chance Rescue give him a second chance at life and love.
UPDATE 10-15-18: I have a message from ELIJAH himself!... "Guys, I'm ok. What happened to me was pretty scary but I'm gonna be just fine. After shelter staff drove me to the hospital Dr. Terry immediately started working on me, I had lost so much blood and didn't feel ok. She fixed my mouth and she stitched up my tongue. Next she will treat me for my heartworms. She said I'll be able to go home in November. I need a home guys. I'm good with kids and dogs and I'm an amazing breed, I'm a pitbull. I have nothing but love to give. Please don't forget about me while I'm recovering."
