Esperanza did not deserve the pain she was suffering in Peru.
Street dogs didn’t ask for this. They don’t deserve to die painful deaths. Help make a difference. A rescue colleague in Peru reached out to NYBC for help with this distraught soul.
From these pictures we can see the horrifying reality and yet the beautiful compassion that they convey. They portray the severe circumstances under which street dogs live and have to suffer daily. What we also see though is humanity and compassion. Someone doing something and taking action. New York Bully Crew did not hesitate to commit to this innocent soul and named her Esperanza, which translates to HOPE.
She is quite simply put, a mess. She may or may not have recently birthed a litter as she is clearly suffering from mastitis, which in addition to is suffering a horrific skin condition and quite obviously emaciation. There is also concern for her to have pyrometra. She was taken straight to a trusted veterinarian in Peru.
Esperanza made it through the night but she is very sick. She is running a fever and has an infection. She needs surgery but is not stable yet to withstand surgery. Please pray for this girl. She needs strength to overcome.
UPDATE 12/1/19: The pyometra surgery was completed and Esperanza is now recovering but she has anemia, a bronchial infection and hasn’t regained her appetite. She is drinking water but hasn’t eaten yet. She is fighting to survive and won’t give up and neither will rescuers. PLEASE HELP!
Rest In Peace 12/12/19: It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the passing of sweet and gentle Esperanza. Edith, her rescuer, told NYBC that her frail body couldn’t fight the infection. We had hope that once she started to eat she would gain more strength but she was tired and was ready to become an angel. Edith buried Esperanza on the mountain near her sanctuary so that Esperanza can watch over the others and keep them safe.
Her passing hurts so deeply. She deserved more than what life gave her. This is the plight of street dogs everywhere, both near and far. But we do take solace in knowing that she had so many loving supporters and she will be welcomed by all the angels that have come before her and she will run like a puppy once more.Esperanza, rest in sweet peace. You are loved.
We want to make the Holidays about saving Esperanza! Her medical care is extensive and expensive for rescuers! We are sponsoring her care with one of our animal saving products. If you can consider one for yourself or a friend as a gift for holidays and Help this Peruvian street dog get her second chance!
