EVE has lived on the streets with no one and no care.
NM Dog received a call from a concerned citizen in the Santa Rosa NM area asking for help with a found dog. When rescuers received her picture, coupled with the fact that resources for animals in critical need simply do not exist in this part of the state, well… they just couldn't say no. EVE (as she was to be named in honor of her Guardian Angel, Adam) was found in a terribly deteriorated physical state, fending for herself in freezing temps.
She was emaciated and had open, oozing wounds. She needed rescuers immediate help if she was going to have any chance at all. The next day, they met EVES Angel, took custody of this obviously Forgotten Dog & got her in to their clinic right away. It was obvious to everyone that she had been on her own for some time… likely all of her life, as she is only 18 mos old! I can’t imagine how hard this girl fought during this time to stay alive...without ever knowing kindness, care, warmth or a nutritious meal.
She was not wearing a collar or tags and is not microchipped. What I can say for sure is that from the moment we met her...we just knew we needed to help make up for all she had been denied for so long. But that road is sure to be long and due to her severe state of deterioration, there is no guarantee she will make a full recovery. But with the support of the NMDOG Village, we have pledged to do all we can to try...that is the least we can do for this little girl that has clearly suffered enough.
EVE presented 1/5 BCS (this means her body condition is pretty much the worst it can and still be alive), her tummy was full of fluid, her wbc count was elevated and her platelets were low. The really good news though is that her organ function is nearly normal, so this lays a good foundation as we move forward. She has fur loss and open pressure sore wounds, along with hot spots over much of her body. EVE also has a very severe case of Heartworm disease - stage 4. Her heart is struggling to work amidst all of the adult worms present & she is showing signs of respiratory distress.
Her prognosis is extremely guarded. We have partnered with NM DOG to create EVE’s campaign to help raise the funds needed for her care. Everything you see here on her page from a shirt, hoodie, tote or bracelet triggers a life saving donation. Please, if you can, support EVE and her recovery.
NMDOG is a 501(c)3, all-volunteer, foster-based, 'in-the-trenches' rescue. We serve the chained, abused, and Forgotten Dogs of New Mexico for the LOVE of DOG.
