Our partners at Second Chance Rescue NYC received a frantic call on July 4th regarding a friendly street cat who had fire crackers shoved in his Mouth and BLOWN UP. The neighbors who witnessed the incident ran out to try to stop it but it was too late and the kids ran and so did the cat.
What kind of inhumane person could do such a thing! Rescuers searched for George W non-stop, rescuers started to feel defeated with no signs of the cat. Until our surprise and our heart break, the stray kitty muddled up the strength to get to rescuers. Now called George, he walked towards the volunteers mouth ripped open, tongue hanging out, blood smeared on his face as if he was saying, “you came, I was waiting for you, please help me.” We are here George W. We came for you and WE will not give up on you
George W is critical. We don’t know if he will make it. There is extensive damage to his mouth and tongue. His teeth are broken and cracked. He is Weak, lethargic, and fading. We are pleading for your help!
UPDATE 7-12-18: George W. Is out of surgery but not out of the woods after having a firecracker explode in his mouth. The fire works destroyed the right side of George’s mouth. They had to remove all the teeth and file down the badly infected bone - currently there is not enough tissue to close the defect. He will need surgery again next week to try to correct this. The left side has severe burns and all teeth on the left side had to be removed. George is left with only Canine teeth. On top of this, there is an infection raging through George’s body.If George can pull through the next couple of days he will require multiple surgeries to correct and restructure his mouth.

UPDATE 7-25-18: We have a message from George that he would like to share with you...
"Hi everyone it’s me George I just wanted to let you know that I’m doing great! After my first surgery I learned to eat on my own and I’m getting healthier every single day. Everyone loves me at the hospital and I love them too. As you can see from the pictures above I still have one surgery left to close one more open wound. You might wonder why this wasn’t done sooner -well the reason is the doctors felt that I wasn’t strong enough to have surgery back to back considering all the trauma that was done to me, it was just too risky. I’m here today to let you know that today is the big day — they are performing one last surgery on me and hopefully this will be it ! Then I will be ready for my forever home! I wanted to thank you for all your love and support and I will hopefully be updating you soon after my surgery. Love always, George W"
