Gummy Bear's owners have been arrested!
Owners of this abused puppy have been arrested! This is an animal cruelty case that came into Second Chance Rescue NYC. He is just a 5 month puppy who was septic with yellow puss coming out of him. He is struggling to breathe and has a skin infection that is just criminal. These criminals were caught.
Now we need to save Gummy Bear. SCR volunteers rushed him to the ER and without wasting a second! He was weighed at the shelter and he was only 3 pounds. Gummy Bear's temperature was not even registering and, at the time, could not stand on his own.
Upon arrival to the ER x-rays, ultrasound, bloodwork had been done. Gummy Bear’s protein levels were elevated, white blood cell count low and he was struggling to breathe. He had blood in his stool, a fever and very dehydrated. The ultrasound revealed a lot of granulation in his stomach (probably from trying to eat anything to survive) and thickened stomach lining from being loaded with parasites.
UPDATE: Gummy is under 24 hour care. He has been enduring his medicated bath scrubs at the hospital to remove the nasty mange crust off. I know it looks rough but trust me...he's well. He is eating and already gaining weight!
Although cruelty charges are being pressed against Gummy Bears former "owners" it doesn't change the fact that this 3 pound dachshund mix puppy has endured great suffering. Gummy Bear remains at the hospital where he is getting the best care there is. Gummy Bear is not even 5 months old which means that most of his life was spent being neglected and abused.
We are sponsoring his care with one of our Pet Emergency Window Clings, magnets and keychains. These notify first responders of any dogs, cats, or other pets in your home in need of rescuing. These are used during an emergency or natural disaster where you are unable to care for your pets. Please consider getting one for yourself or a loved one.
