Hazel: 10 week old puppy fighting for survival.
It was a shot in the dark - a late night text to rescuers at A Pathway To Hope desperate to save this baby from being euthanized in the next few minutes. "Any way Pathway would be interested in an 10 week old pit puppy that is strong parvo positive that the owners will euthanize if no one wants?" Without hesitation, rescuers responded with "yes!" How could they let a baby die for lack of funds to care for her?
Parvo can be a deadly virus, but it also is very treatable with immediate hospitalization. There are very few rescues who will knowingly offer to take a puppy with the virus knowing the financial and foster sacrifice needed. But just look at those eyes. This is not a baby who is done with life.
Hazel has proved to be a trooper but her condition is critical. She is having trouble eating because of the vomiting and diarrhea. Her white blood count sank from 5,000 to 400 today, and we are hoping that tomorrow will bring better news. She also has coccidia and roundworms, which unfortunately aren't helping her digestive concerns, but we have hope that Hazel will pull through and have a happy and healthy life.
It is heartbreaking to imagine having to euthanize a pet who has hope due to lack of financial resources. I am so thankful that the tech at Animal Emergency and Referral Associates thought of Pathway before letting this sweet girl be put down. I am so grateful that rescuers were up to receive that text late at night! I am so grateful for all of you who make this possible. We have angels among us and above us. Please consider being an angel for Hazel.
