We just received a plea to help a dog that has been shot with an arrow. As I write this I can barely type through the tears. Of course we said yes. Now, I am asking for your help! I am so sorry to do this to you guys but the abuse cases just never stops.
This poor girl, named Holly, has been rushed to an Emergency Vet in Louisville and will be under the care of The Arrow Fund. She was shot in a rural county in eastern, Kentucky. This was done intentionally and we have no idea how long she has been suffering with an arrow in her side. Who ever did this to her just let her suffer with no help. There was a lot of blood.
I know these images are hard to see but this is the reality poor Holly is facing. ER Vets put her on pain medications right away. She rested and was kept comfortable. Tests were done and she was and is still on IV fluids, pain medications , and antibiotics. The surgeon will be assembling a full surgical team this morning. This is a very delicate and complex surgery.
This story gets worse. We found out this girl was witnessed running around on Saturday with the arrow in her. No one helped. Finally she came up to a house yesterday where someone actually cared and contacted us. So the bottom line is we do not know exactly how long this girl has been suffering. Surgery will happen now. She needed to be stabilized first. Please keep our baby girl close to your heart. Help me make the holidays about saving Holly!
UPDATE 12-1-16 : Emergency Vets found out she was shot with a Broad Head Arrow Tip. This kind of arrow is intended to maim and kill animals like elk and deer. It combines velocity with several metal points for maximize cutting efficiency and to inflict the most damage possible. This arrow entered her body approximately 7 inches! I can't even comprehend this. This arrow was in her for days before we were alerted and were asked to help her.
Surgery was performed yesterday to remove the arrow. They had several complications. A lobe of her lung had to be removed… The arrow had gone all the way through this lobe and the arrow was sticking out - yes the razor sharp points. Holly came through surgery and was in ICU. Sadly, Holly was not waking up post op and blood levels, blood pressure, and temperature were dropping. She was given a blood transfusion to save her life. She continued to decline and it was determined that she was bleeding internally. So Holly was rushed back in to surgery. This was so hard on her. She has a chest tube for now. She seems to be responding and more alert this morning. Holly is not out of the woods. The wound was a dirty wound, so infection is present. Holly also had two serious surgeries back to back. She is in on antibiotics and a Fentanyl patch for pain. PLEASE HELP US SAVE HER!
UPDATE 12-7-16: Holly had to endure 2 very serious surgeries. We almost lost her during the last one. Vet staff are still monitoring her closely for infection and she is still on pain management. At 4 days post op and Holly is standing and walking! This is so amazing! Rebecca of TAF writes, “I simply could not believe it when they brought her to me. She has made such progress! She will continue to be closely monitored. Donations are still needed… We still have 29 active cases in our care.”
Friends lets continue supporting Holly and TAF along their journey! Please keep sharing her story and purchasing Holly’s totes, tees or hoodies on this page! Lets make a holiday miracle happen for this sweet girl!
We have some great news on Holly. She went to her medical foster home. Thank you Meghan Hall and family for stepping up to foster this sweet Angel. Holly even has a human 5 year old foster sister that she has become quite close to! The first night in her foster home she was just exhausted and slept on the couch for a very long time. Today, she was up for a little more exploring! This girl really is our Holiday Miracle! Thanks to you all for your support. We could not do what we do for these innocent victims of abuse with out your help .
