Homer's owner dragged him behind their truck until the chain broke!
Warning this story is graphic but Homer desperately needs your help! This is happening now as we speak.Homers "owner" did not deem him fit to ride inside his vehicle. Instead, Homer was chained to the back of the pick up truck like a slave..... or like hauling old furniture to the dump across town. One wrong move down the road and poor Homer flew violently out of the vehicle and smashed face first into smoking hot pavement. This story gets even worse!
To add insult to injury, Homer's "owner" did not stop and kept driving and dragging him until the chain finally broke. Who does that? The force and magnitude in which Homer crashed into the ground left him with multiple injuries. There is severe road rash, abrasions all over his body, his front extremities are badly damaged (skin and underlying tissue ripped off & exposed bone), one of his ears is literally ripped in half and well… you can see his face looks horrendously mangled. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Homer then ended up at the kill shelter and his owner could give half a stone about getting him out. He was there for days and sat with these injuries and a memory that he can't shake. This dog is owed and he deserves expert medical care to be able to assess his injuries and get the ER care I feel he is very much so entitled to. I am asking for your help to assist us in saving Homer. We want to give him everything his "owner" chose not to. If this dog speaks to you and does something to your heart and soul, please help.
Dallas DogRRR and SCR NYC stepped up to save this boy and now needs your help! They are both licensed Non Profit Organizations and rely solely on donations to continue their life-saving work. They cannot do this without you.
This is where we are asking for your help! We have partnered with DD RRR to create these animal saving shirts, sweaters and accessories to raise the funds needed to save sweet Homer, pay for his surgeries and continued around the clock care. With your help they can save him from this unthinkable abuse. Everything from a tee to a bracelet can help Homer heal both mentally and physically.
UPDATE 7-8-17: Humble Homer is alive and safe. It's been a crazy 24 hours with code reds, i'll get right to it. From what we know, unfortunately - NO, the owner was not charged -- He drove away and never came back -- YEs-- I'm pissed about it too. For now our focus is his physical and mental well being. He is amazing with people but he definitely flinches when you go to pet him. I assure you, his life was horrible prior to yesterday. He is doted on, respected and valued as we speak. His labs came back and were absolutely fantastic, so another win for our boy. We are definitely looking at a lot of laser therapy for a long time. Again, i'd like to personally thank all of you who made this save possible - You are part of our rescue when y'all are diving in Sharing, tagging, donating. We love you all!
UPDATE 7-10-17: Here he is folks! Homer has been released from in patient care and is now at the amazing Camp Dogrrr! He is coming along well. He will have continuous bandage changes, washes and laser therapy. Camp director reports that Homer does not know how to act around dogs which is what we expected so she is exposing him to learn, so far he loved a camper pit mix female Belles (who I love too), he was great with her and we will evaluate him soon. in the meanwhile, please still support Dallas Dog RRR and Mr. Homer one tee, tote, hoodie or bracelet!
UPDATE 7-14-17: Here he is everyone, his trauma is obviously in the healing phase and he is starting to look better with all of the dead skin now almost fully removed and several washes and laser. It's a process and he is getting there. At this point we would like to begin the process for opening up the adoption pool for a boy so that he can recover in a home with a family who will value him.
UPDATE 7-18-17: We have obtained Homers shelter video from right before DDRRR pulled him. You can see how amazing he is with people. Homer needs a home to recuperate in and we are seeking a foster or adopter with no small dogs or tiny children. He would be very grateful to finally have a home to call his own. Patti, founder at DDRRR, love this dog and she will personally sponsor his adoption fee and provide food, crate and some treats for this prince. The rescue will also provide a trainer should you need one. Please apply for Homer at : Dallasdogrrr.org
UPDATE 7-25-17 : We have a message from Homer himself. "Sup everyone one, it's me your Homie HOMER! I just wanted to let you all know that I made it to my official foster home this past weekend after Camp Dogrrr and in and out of medical ward. My face is starting to heal up pretty well and my foster mom really loves me already. She is a really nice lady who decided to give a big soulful strong boy like me a chance. The world needs more people like her to help my friends."
FINAL UPDATE 12-1-17: Homer's owner dragged him behind their truck until the chain broke! It has taken 6 months for this poor baby to recover from some of the most horrible abuse we have ever seen. Well we have some incredible news. Homer is finally ready to find his forever home. Homer is a sweet gentle soul who loves being loved! If you are looking to adopt Homer please apply here : Dallasdogrrr.org/adopt
Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal-loving volunteers who support the abandoned dogs of Dallas, Texas, by collecting supplies, paying vet bills, locating foster families, facilitating adoptions, and advocating for a more hopeful future. We are often seen even in the trenches of SE Dallas searching for and rescuing forgotten dogs. We have no administrative fees; no one is on payroll. Every single cent that is donated goes directly to paying for vet bills and food/supplies for our rescued dogs, as well as for boarding (for those that don’t have fosters). We are simply a group of volunteers motivated by the inspiring rescue stories that we get to be a part of every day!
