7-month-old Hope was used as a bait dog. Her abusers hung her upside down so she couldn’t fight back. Yes, they hung this poor baby upside down by her feet. Cowards! Then, she was attacked repeatedly, over and over and over. There is an open investigation into her horrific abuse. We will keep you updated on her case. Good Karma Dog Rescue stepped up to rescue Hope and for now, we are focused on saving her life.
Medically, she is in critical condition. She was rushed immediately to a medical team waiting to save her. Hope’s body was destroyed from dog fighting and being used as bait. She is literally in pieces. You can see large chunks of skin and muscle falling off. Her face and body are distorted from the massive swelling. She is riddled with old and new bite marks. I couldn’t help but break down after seeing this girl. I cannot believe this.
Her swelling is still very bad. She cannot be put on a steroid right now for the swelling. She is on 3 massive antibiotics and the steroid will then further suppress her immunity and can potentially cause kidney failure. So doctors are sticking to the treatment plan of 3 antibiotics and NSAID pain reliever. She gets laser treatments, warm compresses and cleanings several times a day. Her elbow wounds and some of the bite wounds on her head and face have opened up, which is actually good, so the infection can come out. But, for now, she will remain on the IV so the meds are almost instantaneously working. As of today, her bill is at $2,135.85 and this will only continue to rise.
The hospital is running a complete blood panel on her. Rescuers at Good Karma Dog Rescue are doing a 4dx test to make sure she doesn’t have any heart-worms. At first, she was not eating and the swelling had not gone down so they were very concerned about the type of infections she could have, so doctors are also doing a wound culture. Doctors were going to insert a feeding tube. Then Hope finally ate a little bit of shredded chicken breast last night! That was huge. It was her first interest in eating and the potential to not have to insert a feeding tube. She needs nutrition and sustenance to fight off all this infection.
Hope has a long road to recovery but this girl has got a will to survive and we are going to make sure that she does. We have created this campaign page to help us raise funds needed for Hope’s care. Everything you see here from a t-shirt, tote bag, hoodie or bracelet is dedicated to helping give Hope the best care possible and a chance to live a life pain free and full of love. Will you help her?
UPDATE 12-31-16 : The doctors were not quite so optimistic when her swelling was at its absolute worst....but wow. Its going down. They are still waiting for the complete culture results and she WILL need surgery on her left eye wound soon. Because those monsters hung her upside down and used her as bait she will have to heal both physically and mentally.
UPDATE 1-3-17 : Hope saw her primary vet, Dr. Kwon, with her medical foster mom and he of course, loved her to pieces. He cannot believe it is the same dog as a week ago either! Her culture came back with bacterias that can be treated with oral medications. Dr. Kwon was concerned about the nose and elbow swelling so he aspirated them. Turned out to not just be soft tissue swelling and they were little abscesses. So he drained some of her elbow and aspirated & lanced her nose and got most of it out. She doesn't look like she has a rhino horn anymore! Dr. Kwon is still considering doing surgery over her left eye to open it, clean it out and suture it closed to get rid of any infection. Everything you see here from a t-shirt, tote bag, hoodie or bracelet is dedicated to helping give Hope the best care possible and a chance to live a life pain free and full of love. Will you help her?
