Libre: Abusers left 7 week old infested with MAGGOTS!
*****UPDATE*****The bond between Libre — the emaciated, mange-ravaged Boston terrier puppy saved from an Amish dog breeder — and the rescuer who fought to give him a second chance is undeniable."I just really connected with him. I don't know why, because I've rescued so many dogs," said Janine Guido, who founded and runs Speranza Animal Rescue in Mechanicsburg. "I get butterflies before I visit him. Something about Libre really captured my heart."Libre's reaction to seeing Guido during their daily visits leaves no doubt the feeling is mutual, according to Michelle Hall, a certified veterinary technician at Dillsburg Veterinary Center. The moment he sees Guido, Libre begins wagging his tail like crazy, and he can't wait to shower her with puppy kisses, Hall said."I know she's going to be amazing for him — she already is," Hall said. "She's going to spoil him."
** LIBRE INVESTIGATION UPDATE **
The Humane Society of The US is currently conducting their own investigation on Libre's case. Yay! Dr Pryor, myself, and others involved are more than willing to testify to help bring Justice to Libre.
Thank you all for the continued support!
I can barely type through my tears. A few hours ago I was sent a picture of a puppy who was left for dead. He is emaciated, dehydrated and clinging to life. Abusers have left this poor soul dyeing and infested with maggots!
The doctor called rescuers and said it does not look good. Libre is in and out of consciousness and barely breathing. In all her years the emergency vet said he is the worst case she's ever seen. Will you help us save Libre?
Doctors wanted to euthanize him but the incredible rescuers at Speranza Animal Rescue said they would do anything to save Libre's life. Rescuers could smell his rotting infected flesh before they could even see his tiny head stick out of the blanket.
The doctor says his chances are slim… At 7 weeks old he has only ever experienced horror, and neglect. Her exact words were "he needs a miracle". Will you be this miracle?
I'm asking. And begging, please... please help me save this baby. Libre tested positive for demodectic mange among his many ailments. He has severe secondary skin infections. Puss and blood is just oozing from his body. Emergency staff has also found maggots infesting his wounds.
He is still in critical condition and we are taking it minute by minute. But he's alive and needs your help!
**UPDATE** Little man is a fighter! HeaAte small amounts of food throughout the night and morning. Blood tests from this morning showed improving WBC counts! Dr. Pryor is sending out a biopsy and culture to assure this pup is on the most appropriate course of therapy. Still in very critical condition but showing tiny signs of improvement.
Speranza Animal Rescue
The reality of the situation is that if Speranza is going to be committed to saving the dogs in the most need of medical attention, then Speranza is also going to have to be committed to continual fundraising to support the mission. Speranza Animal Rescue received its 501c3 Tax-Deductible Non-Profit status from the IRS in early 2014. " Others look at a dog and see a lost cause. We look at that dog and see an opportunity "
