Lucy cannot eat or open her mouth.
Posted by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC on Thursday, February 1, 2018
Lucy never wanted to live this nightmare. She cannot open her mouth, is emaciated, and has facial tics that you can clearly see in the video. Her previous owner stated that she has not eaten in 2 weeks! Our partners at RDR couldn’t say no to this precious girl, and we know you cannot either. She is on her way to our emergency vet right now for further assessment and treatment.
It's not her fault that her owner did not seek immediate medical treatment, it's not her fault that her life has clearly been hell. Her expressive eyes plead for help. She is clearly in distress, and has been for some time. This will be an expensive undertaking, but there is no price for life, and no timestamp on the bottom of her foot, and her life matters just as much as anyone else’s. Now we are asking for your help.
Rescue Dogs Rock asks, “Won't you help us get her the treatment she needs? NOW is the time she needs you the most!” A few possible diagnosis' include: tetanus, or possibly Masticatory muscle myositis (MMM) which is an immune system disorder where the dog’s immune system identifies the dog’s own muscle tissue as foreign and attacks it, causing the masticatory muscles to become swollen and painful and they cannot open their mouths to eat, chew, or pick up their toys without excruciating pain. Thank you in advance for your donation, and please pray for Lucy.
As of last night after CT scan and other diagnostics, the best guess right now is that it’s tetanus! Lucy has a feeding tube in and is being treated with steroids and antibiotics. The medical team feels tetanus would be a better outcome than the other feared possibilities: rabies, distemper or MMM.
She left the Emergency Room this afternoon where she had been since Saturday morning and is heading to her primary GA vet. She still needs a bath, but the feeding tube and IV’s are out. Lucy is eating on her own and taking the meds in her food. She’s being treated for tetanus, is heartworm positive and has a long road back. Now we are asking for your help.
Her care will cost in the thousands and that is just not the type of funds Rescue Dogs Rock has. To help save Lucy and give her the care she needs please consider purchasing one of her tees, hoodies, tote or bracelets below. They make a beautiful gift and give knowing you helped save this poor baby!
