Mirabelle: She was neglected by owner almost to death.
Turns out that Mirabelle that came in earlier in the week with a suspected liver shunt most likely has been experiencing issues due to head trauma.
Tests show that her liver function is normal, and her abdominal ultrasound also does not show any abnormalities. According to her previous owner, this poor dog has not been acting right for a month before they took Mirabelle to a vet and signed her over. It is so heartbreaking that she has been suffering this long without treatment.
This story is heartbreaking. How could her "owner" knowingly neglected Mirabelle almost to death. Lets call it like it is. She refused to treat or seek treatment for Mirabelle when she needed it most. This poor tiny dog only weighs 3 pounds now.
Mirabelle's condition is critical. She is blind, ataxic, and head pressing. Also a liver shunt is suspected. She is being prepped for surgery as we speak.
Here is what we know about the previous "owners". This baby was eventually signed over to a Vet Clinic and then that Vet Clinic asked The Arrow Fund to take over her care. TAF will be investigating this case and we will keep you posted.
Today Mirabelle underwent an ultrasound and a bile duct test. Mirabelle will need to be hospitalized for a while to get stabilized and then put in medical foster care to get her ready for liver shunt surgery. She will need to gain weight before she will be a good candidate for surgery.
Little Mirabelle is very sweet, but very nervous upon arrival. An anonymous donor gave what is called "snuggle puppies" that actually have a heart in them. The battery operated heart sounds like an actual beating heart. It immediately calmed her.
We want to thank all involved in helping Mirabelle get to us so that she will have the best chance of survival. We have partnered with The Arrow Fund to help raise the funds needed for Mirabelle's care. You can make a difference in Mirabelle 's life one tee, hoodie or bracelet at a time!
