Mortimer: Missing an eye and covered in maggot infested wounds.
Wow… to say this animal was in pain would be an understatement. You may think this is a senior dog but believe it or not he is only 5 month old. What rescuers discovered next is devastating. Medical Animals In Need saw his photos and immediately went into action.
Mortimer was brought into the shelter, matted and sick. He was so matted that staff had no idea what was actually going on. When the hair was cut away from his face, it was discovered that his left eye was non-viable. It looks like it has been sewn shut. We are hoping to save his right eye. He has lots of open wounds / holes in his face. I am heartbroken to say that they were all full of maggots.
Mortimer will need around the clock care. Vet staff have run blood work and taken x-rays of his head and face. The x-rays have been shared with specialist because they are puzzling. Staff is assuming that this has all been caused by some sort of trauma but want to rule out any other possible causes. They also don't know at this point if we will be able to save the other eye.
We will update everyone as soon as we know more. For now we need your help saving this babies life. Please, if you are able, consider purchasing one of our animal saving products to help us raise the funds for his care.
We have partnered with Medical Animals In Need to help raise the funds needed for Mortimer's care. With every shirt, bracelet, tote or hoodie you can give this abused baby a second chance at a pain free life full of love. This abuse needs to be stopped. Will you join us?
