Neron was found abandoned and defeated with maggots eating at his tail.
This is heartbreaking. His name is Neron. He was found abandoned and defeated. He is skin and bones and he has a gruesome wound at the base of his tail that is so necrotic, worms and larvae have made their home in his flesh. His tail is eaten down to the cartilage. I know this is graphic but this is the reality he is facing.
Neron has myiasis: an infestation of maggots. Flies reproduce by laying eggs, which hatch and release maggots. Pets, especially those confined outside or who are weak and debilitated, are particularly susceptible. When the eggs hatch, maggots will begin to feast on any dead or dying tissue and will even begin to eat healthy tissue. Who or what did this to him we do not know.
New York Bully Crew has an incredible rescuers in Venezuela but they do not have the funds. They are overwhelmed with dire cases day after day. But NYBC immediately stepped in and had him transported to their trusted veterinarian. We are here to help in our own way and sponsor his care.
Neron in critical condition and needed to be stabilized first. He will need a blood transfusion. The necrotic wound that is invested in larva is one of the worst we have seen and this most important that the emergency doctors are focusing on. Please pray for Neron to have the strength to make it through another day.
UPDATE: Neron survived and made it through the night and had an appetite today. He is not giving up and neither will we.
Please help sponsor Neron’s care. This will cost rescuers hundreds of dollars along with the care of the other abandoned dogs. These are funds most rescues do not have. We are sponsoring his care with one of our animal saving products. Please consider one for you or a friend and give him the life he deserves!
