In NYC the highway patrol were waiting with a dirty crate that they found along the Van Wyck Expressway, a very busy main highway in NYC. Inside the locked crate, which was on the side of the highway for god knows how long, is this horribly neglected dog. It was nearly 100 degrees in NYC the past few days, it is a miracle this dog did not succumb to heat stroke being in such horrific condition.
Whoever dumped this baby, intended her to die on that highway. Doctors couldn’t believe the smell and condition of this animal. She is covered and caked in urine and feces, every inch of her is wet and sticky with urine. She is so matted and dirty, you can not even make out her face. You can only tell because her tongue is sticking out from under the Matts. This did not happen in a matter of days, or even weeks, this poor dog has been living in hell like this for a long time. She was then tossed out like a piece of trash.
She is severely dehydrated, and she is in very rough shape. They are getting her prepped for a full work-up, IV fluids and critical care. Rescuers have taken her in and she will get the best medical care possible, in hopes she can push through this living nightmare. She has been name Patches.
UPDATE 7-12-18: We have some wonderful news to share with you on this beautiful sunny day. Patches, who was rescued from the side of the Van Wyck Expressway, locked in a crate- is doing well. She is currently still hospitalized at a vet in Queens NY. This poor little angel has been through so much, but she is a fighter. She is still on IV fluids, for severe dehydration, and antibiotics for an infection. Her bloodwork was good, and her body is responding well. How anyone could neglect, and throw her out on a busy highway in scorching temperatures- intending to kill her- is absolutely disgusting.
UPDATE 7-25-18: We have some great news to share with you. Patches is doing beautifully. She is gaining weight and has so much more life in her. She is such a little fighter- even at 10 years old. She is a true survivor. She is receiving a medicated bath from the vet staff after she was shaved down. Once her skin is healed she will be ready for her new life!
We have partnered with Second Chance Rescue NYC to help raise the funds they need to save Patches. To help save Patches please consider purchasing one of her shirts, totes, bracelets and coffee mugs below. With every purchase you can help us cover her vetting costs and continued care!
