Percible was found tied inside a plastic bag.
WARNING *EXTREMELY SENSITIVE FOOTAGE
This tiny dog was found tied inside a plastic bag. Second Chance Rescue stated this is the worst case of neglect in the history of their rescue. His body was found tied in a bag on Mother’s Day.
A driver saw the plastic bag moving and discovered a dog barely alive. The animal was unable to walk, panting, caked in feces, maggots, urine, flies, worms and was horribly abused.
This is under investigation. From the looks and putrid smell of this poor guy he has been neglected and abused for a very long time. The dog was taken to the shelter and the shelter staff immediately reached out to Second Chance Rescue NYC knowing they specialize in saving animals just like this dog.
Once this poor dog was transported to their emergency vet doctors started to stabilize the dog. For those of you thinking he should be euthanized you need to know that he can survive this abuse but it will take your support. Jennifer Brooks, founder at Second Chance Rescue NYC said, “So help me God I will do everything in our power to help him.” Rescuers have named him Percible. We are just as angry as you guys are but we MUST focus on saving his life.
UPDATE 5-14-19: At this juncture at least 2 limbs are not salvageable. They could not finish shaving his head so that is being done by his incredible surgeon as we speak, Dr. Lockwood. He needs to be sedated for this and he will also be put under which is a risk but they have no choice. His eyes are a mess, his collar was encrusted into his mats and neck, bloodwork results and x-ray results will be back shortly.
UPDATE 5-15-19: Perci continues to make amazing progress! His bloodwork and x-rays came back STELLAR! He had a matted mass removed from the back of his head, it was sent out for biopsy. Today he has a consult with an eye specialist to get his eyes started on medications for his corneal ulcers. Although these pictures are graphic and horrific, he is recovering VERY WELL and is very alert and present.
UPDATE 5-17-19: Percible is holding rock steady at Blue Pearl Specialty center in GA. He continues to defy all odds & is building his hurricane strength. He will lay low these next few days & continue with his bandage changes & eye meds for his corneal ulcers. Everything is healing according to his medical plan. He will remain at Blue Pearl until at least Monday, then he will be transferred to another facility (we will see if he needs a dental) before he makes his NYC debut for rehab. We had a call with his potential NYC rehab yesterday to work out a plan/reservation. We decided to leave his arms on in hopes that he will be fitted for prosthetics & also learn to use them. Dr. Lockwood took 1.5 inches off the right leg & closed off the end of the stump of the left. He lost his paws due to strangulation necrosis of his mats. Other than his ulcers & his stumps, he is a very healthy 8 yr old poodle.
UPDATE 5-22-19: Percible continues to do very well at Blue Pearl Specialty Hospital. Rescuers received the biopsy results of the infected mass that was removed from the back of his head is BENIGN! It was a trichoblastoma that was caused by the filth Perci was left in. The only procedure he will have left to endure as of now is a much needed dental. His back teeth are pretty rotted due to the neglect he suffered for years.
UPDATE 5-31-19: Aside from his determination and will to be here with us today, rescuers are learning a lot about this little guy. He LOVES good food, totally potty trained, and REALLY finds comfort in being around other dogs. So far he does not seem to mind cats and is starting to be exposed to the hospital cat and his medical foster's cat. Josie the tech brings him home at night so they can watch the tube and he can be comforted by her dogs, he is a very good house guest and we are very grateful for the caring staff at Dr. Terry's and Blue Pearl for the compassionate expert care he has received so far. He is still receiving daily bandage changes and his eye medications.Thank you for loving him, he deserves all of the love in the world.
We continue to ask for your support. This type of care is extremely expensive. We have created the animal saving products you see below to help rescuers cover Perci’s care. We ask that you please share his story and consider purchasing one of his tees, hoodies, pillows or aprons below.
