Rocky: Pitbull attacked by 4 other dogs and dumped at high-kill shelter.
I just wanted to check back in and give you guys an update on our boy rocky. The infection in his leg can not be eliminated to the vets have made the sad decision to take his leg on August 17th. The bone infection is so bad now that the bone has grown around the infection and there is nothing that can save the leg. He is doing great otherwise and is the most kind loving dog you would ever meet otherwise. We have partnered with Rebel Paws Rescue to help raise the funds needed for Rocky's recovery. Friends please help us save a pitbull named Rocky. Rocky is a 1 1/2 year old blue Pit Bull Mix. Rocky's story is not for the faint of heart. He was out roaming around in his area and he wandered into the wrong yard. Rocky was brutally attacked by four dogs that lived on the property. The owner of this property came home to find Rocky severely injured and just left him there in pain to die. I know, we are as frustrated with this as you guys are.
When Rocky did not succumb to death, over a week later he was taken to the local high kill shelter. At the shelter his wounds were assessed by the Vet and it was determined that they did not want to stitch "old wounds" to close him up. The vet sent him back to a dirty, non-sterile kennel with antibiotics. Again, we are as frustrated with this as you guys are too…
Another week had passed and Rocky was not doing any better. Many eyes came across him and his wounds but no one stepped up to do anything about it. No calls were made to the Vet because of the lack of funds at this shelter. One day a volunteer at the shelter saw the extent of Rocky's injuries and saw past all the pain in his eyes and saw that he still had a huge heart underneath it all. After a good bath and clipping more wounds were found.
Again this was brought to the attention of vet staff and they did not have any idea of the extent of the damage to be done and he would have probably been euthanized. Once again Rocky faced death and beat it! Proving his life is worth fighting for.
Rebel Paws Rescue has stepped up just like the volunteer; to speak for him and provide for him in ways that we cannot fully express in words. His wounds were flushed several times a day along with daily doses of antibiotics. With ripped ears, a huge gaping injury to his hip and rib cage, and the severe trauma to his front leg, he still remained stoic through all of his treatment, nursing himself with a rebellious nature to live and prove to anyone that his life was meaningful. The infection has set into the bone and even with antibiotic injections in the actual joint we remain hopeful that he will keep the leg, but Rescuers will always do what is best for him to have the best life possible, 3 or 4 limbed.
Rocky has survived all of this to make a mark on this world. The pictures are graphic but these images need to be seen so that this will not happen to another animal again. We have partnered with Rebel Paws Rescue to help raise the funds needed for Rocky's recovery. Please consider purchasing an item below to help save this boys life.
