Roxanne: Head swollen twice it's size after being choked with a 6lbs. chain!
Just when we think we have seen it ALL, the worst of the worst, we NEVER have! This is a hard story to write you guys. We COULD NOT believe our eyes when we saw these graphic and horrific photos this afternoon! They really had us at a loss; we were absolutely STUNNED and stopped in our tracks. Our friends at Rescue Dog Rocks NYC saved this baby and we knew we had to step up to help save her life.
It's as if everything stops when you view something this awful and you have to take a minute to regroup and take it all in. You are in shock and cannot speak or act for several seconds. But we knew this poor dog was critical and on borrowed time, so without hesitation Rescue Dogs Rock said YES they would help her and had her rushed to their Emergency Vet Partner. She is getting around the clock care.
We don't know the back story (obviously not good), but in a 911, life threatening situation, that could wait. We do know she is a female pit mix, 50 pounds, found wearing a HUGE, THICK chain weighing 6.3 pounds, MORE THAN 10% of her body weight! I know we are as upset by this as you are. The chain was ENORMOUS and had to be cut off with heavy bolt cutters and she was rushed in for immediate ER surgery.
She is critical with an exposed artery and serious adema (swelling) in her face and neck. Her neck is open almost 100% of the way around. There is no neck or definition of a neck left.
Rescuers have named her Roxanne and she needs your prayers and funds now. We are sickened and will share more as this horrific story of UNACCEPTABLE abuse unfolds. Our hearts are broken for this poor dog. Please, if you are able, consider purchasing an item below to help save this girl's life. We have partnered with Rescue Dogs Rock NYC to help raise the funds needed for Roxanne 's recovery.
