Sarge had experimental surgery to re-insert his intestines.
I am speechless we do not know what happened. He was brought into the shelter as it was closing and his intestines were hanging out of his body. We literally know nothing about what happened… I have never been speechless in this job but I don't know what to say.
Our friends at Dallas Dog RRR rushed the stray to the ER. Doctors have never seen anything like this before. Doctors were worried about the intestine and if they are still viable, they are worried about the loss blood flow to the intestines. Late at night they triaged him and immediately performed the surgery.
Rescuers have named him Sarge. Doctors were able to get everything back in the abdomen however they noticed two areas in the intestines that needed to be removed as they were compromised and will likely fail. He was not strong enough on the table for a longer surgery.
Last night Sarge had his second surgery to removed parts of his intestine that were compromised. He did wake up from his surgery but is in guarded condition. Sarge has two drains, central line, feeding tube and a catheter. Along with a broken ankle.
UPDATE 6-14-19: Doctors will be removing Sarge's catheter and feeding tube tomorrow. This is a big step in his recovery. He wanted to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to help!
UPDATE 6-17-19: Sarge has taken an incredible step in his recovery! He is home and released from the hospital he is thriving! Thank you everyone who every day sacrifice a starbucks or a special treat to continue to help animals like Sarge. We truly can not do it without the love and support everyday.
Please prayer for Sarge. This is all new territory for his rescuers and doctors. This type of surgery and care is extremely expensive and we are asking for your support. We have sponsored his care by creating the animal saving products you see below. Please consider purchasing something below to help.
