Sparkle is NOT pregnant!
Shelter staff stated that Sparkle was going to be giving birth in a week but they were going to abort her babies. Rescuers couldn’t stomach the thought that these full term puppies would be terminated so they rushed to the shelter to save her and her unborn children. Rescuers notice that her ears were really swollen and possibly still infected. She was sneezing a ton and started whining looking really uncomfortable.
Rescuers rushed Sparkle to the emergency vet to get her some ear medication but ended up doing an x ray too to see how many puppies she was having. Then they heard the worst news possible. She was not pregnant! doctors performed an ultrasound and she had lots of fluid in her stomach and masses surrounding her uterus. She had Pyometra which is an infection in the uterus. They were lucky she survived this long. Doctors went into action to save her life.
They rushed Sparkle into surgery and didn’t finished until 2 AM! They removed her uterus and the huge mass that was attached to it. Her uterus was filled with puss and the uterus shouldn't have any fluids in it. The mass was filled with blood and puss and could have ruptured at any moment. If it would have ruptured she would have became septic and would have died.
Sparkle is under 24 hour watch after surgery. Her levels are still too high. She is battling an ear infection and upper respiratory infection as well. Caitlin, founder of CVB wrote “I'm so glad I wanted to get her checked out or else she would not have made it. My vet is so amazing squeezing me in and staying at the office late to preform her surgery.” Now we need your support to save this babies life.
We cannot do this without you. The surgery, emergency care and ongoing care will cost in the thousands and thats just not the kind of fund this rescue has. So, we have stepped in to help. We have created the Animal Abuse Awareness shirts, hoodies, totes and bracelets you see below. We ask that if you would consider one of these items below. It's a great way to show family and friends that not only do you have a cute shirt but you helped save Sparkle’s life.
