Tank: Used as a bait dog - - teeth and ears removed.
*** UPDATE - 3/10/16 ***
Tank's second extended culture after his second surgery came back. It turns out he is fighting 2 different strains of E Coli. The only way to safely treat this without side effects is with IV and antibiotic injections. His first set of treatment was around $1500. This was just for the antibiotic medications. He will need to be on fluids during his injections. If Tank's infections do not clear with these Injections and his wounds do not heal and attach to skin properly he will need another surgery!
*** UPDATE - 3/2/16 ***
Tank is out of surgery and doing well. He will be hospitalized. Dr. V had to take a different route than expected. Instead of opening the wound and leaving it open and dressing it with sugarcane and bandage, he had to actually scoop a lot of skin from the wound and close it back up and insert drains again.
He said the skin was so tough underneath that it was like a callous and it wasn't attaching like it should have been. He had to cut the wound even more and basically dig out the infected skin. He sent out another culture to the lab and will be looking at IV injections that cost around $1500 just for a 10 day treatment plan! He will also need to be hospitalization during injections and will be closely monitored.
He was able to remove the canine that was completely rotten. Thank you to everyone who kept and continues to keep tank in their thoughts and prayers!
*** UPDATE 2/25/16 ***
Tank isn't doing so well unfortunately. Furever Bully Love Rescue checked his bloodwork today and the antibiotic injections they started are already having a negative effect on his kidneys. Our safest option seems to be the surgery. We cannot risk our baby going into kidney failure.
In this surgery the doctor will open his face back up into a new fresh wound, clean everything out and cut the infection out. Rescuers & Staff will have to dress it every other day with new bandages and watch his healing extremely close which also means hospitalization.
This poor victim of dog fighting needs your help more then ever.
*** END UPDATE ***
Tank was used as a bait dog, attacked over and over again for some sick persons pleasure. Tank was picked up as a stray in Miami, Florida. He spent several days in horrible condition at Miami Dade Animal Shelter before he was finally rescued.
This poor dog had both old and new injuries, scars and puncture wounds. There was a hole the size of a baseball near his neck filled with rotting flesh. It looks like a dog latched on and tried to rip his throat out.
The Vet said he had been like this for some time. His teeth had been filed down so he couldn't defend himself. Poor Tank has also tested Heartworm Positive. Furever Bully Love Rescue's vet, Dr Vergel, was able to insert a couple drains, remove the necrotic tissue, and close the massive hole on his neck.
He has started laser therapy to help heal as well. Tank had a bad reaction to the antibiotics he was taking so they were recently switched, he is doing well at this time. Once he is healthy and strong enough he will be able to begin Heartworm treatment. Tank still has a long road ahead of him but he will never be hurt again, he will know nothing but love from this day forward. Will you join us in saving him. We have created the shirts above to help us raise the donations for his care! Please consider purchasing one today!
