Thai: Hit by a car, left eye dangling, severely broken jaw
D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue was alerted to a thread on Facebook in a community group about an injured Siamese cat. A Good Samaritan had found him in some bushes near a busy road. He attempted to feed him and he sought help on Facebook. Before the rescue could do anything, animal control had already come to help the kitty. It is believed that kitty was struck by a vehicle. Thai, as he would be called, had his left eye hanging from its socket and a severely broken and dislocated jaw. The shelter removed his badly damaged eye. His broken jaw would still need repair immediately.
D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue officially rescued Thai on Sunday and immediately took him to the vet to evaluate his jaw, which requires extensive surgery. Initially, it was thought there was only one break in the jaw. But, after examination and better x-rays, the vet found an additional break at the back of the jaw near the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This a is delicate area that controls the opening and closing of the jaw. Thai would need a specialist and oral surgeon, given the complexity of the two breaks.
Thai is on pain medication to keep him comfortable but it was near impossible for him to eat. He just pushed his nose/mouth around in his slurry and swallowed what got in his mouth. It was difficult or painful to extend his tongue to lap up any food. He needs surgery immediately. Estimates for the surgery range from $3,000 at the very least.
Thai and D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue need your help. With each and every product purchased, Hendrick & Co. will donate $10 to help D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue give Thai the surgery and treatment he needs to survive.
