Thumper's abuser threw him away in a pizza box!
We received a urgent plea from a partner shelter, about this tiny boy who was thrown away inside of a pizza box. Yes, you read that right… some awful horrible person threw this abused dog out like trash in a pizza box.
This tiny 6 pound dog was found in a public dumpster in terrible condition. His body is virtually destroyed from abuse. He was rushed to the shelter, where they determined he was critical and needed immediate rescue to save his life.
Thats when our partners at Second Chance Rescue NYC sent volunteers to transport this baby for life saving care. Volunteers had him rushed to a 24-hour emergency hospital. What doctors saw was something no one was prepared for.
He is not able to stand, and the doctors believe he has blunt force trauma to his head. He is showing neurological signs and has bloody discharge. We are heartbroken, that someone hurt him intentionally, then threw him out like trash.
UPDATE 4-5-18: Thumper is still critical. His pupils are restricted, his blood pressure and and blood sugar were dangerously low. He is still wobbly, this could be an indication of a massive blunt force trauma to his little head. We are disgusted that someone could be so violent with this tiny little innocent. A PIZZA BOX!
Animal control is investigating and right now he is fighting for his life.
UPDATE 4-10-18: This little pup is a survivor, a warrior, a fighter. This was a steady progression from darkness to light. After periods of darkness, there is a light that waited for Thumper to be born into a new phase. His life is now renewed and restored. We thank you all for helping us save him. Thumper is now being discharged from ICU to go to his primary vet clinic and then to the rehab program. Second Chance Rescue have received over 110 applications to adopt Thumper. We know many hearts will be broken because there is simply not enough Thumper to go around. When he is healed and through rehabilitation SCR will go through all of them to see who the best fit is for him and we will allow adoption within 3 hrs of NYC to keep him close to our specialists should he need anything in the future.
SCR still needs your help! He may be healing but is medical bills are climbing! His medical care estimates are over $10,000! We are here to help raise the funds needed for Thumper’s emergency care. To help please consider purchasing one of his shirts, totes, bracelets and coffee mugs below. We have partnered with SCR NY to create these animal saving products to raise the funds needed to save him!
A VERY SAD UPDATE
I have a message from Thumper's rescuers. "It it with such utter heartbreak that we inform you that Thumper passed away today at 250pm. We are in total shock and it just doesn't seem real. I fought with myself for a good hour about whether to inform you all or not. I didn't want to break anyone's heart or let anyone down because I knew how much everyone loved him, I knew what a significant triumph this was for this little warrior of a dog. We rescued Thumper on Easter weekend after he was found pretty much lifeless inside a Pizza box in a dumpster. He made a significant rebound after just 6 days at the specialty ER. He spent another week at Dr. Terry's and all labs were stellar and the little guy who came in at 3.6lbs was gaining weight and feeling fabulous. He was then transferred to The Barbie Dreamhouse Rehab facility where life had really just begun. He was situated in their Inhome medical program at the facility where dogs are on medical cue until they finish treatment and make their way up to us once medically cleared. They sent us daily pictures and videos and we learned a lot about "Thump" as they called him. We learned he would lose his ever-loving mind when the staff ate. We learned he was the Boss of all the dogs and humans the moment he walked into the joint and we learned that his manhood was bigger than his leg. Thumper still had a ways to go before he could be medically cleared and neutered before he went to his amazing adopter here in Woodstock, NY. He was very underweight and the girls were making sure he was packing on the pounds so he could have his snip snip. Thump was a feisty little one, we had donors that wanted to call in to donate to his care and he responded with let the lady send him some cash for his bitches. That was Thump in a nutshell."
"Late this morning Thump seemed a little off, he picked at his food which was very unlike him but it was a very cold, gloomy, rainy day so we thought maybe he is just a sprinkle off. Dr. Terry came in to see what was going on and he began to crash, and his heart stopped. Dr Terry performed CPR for a very long time and we could not get him back. I will admit it's not the fact that he is dead that bothers me the most, it is the fact that his passing broke our medical teams heart, his adopters heart and your hearts. I find comfort in knowing this: Thumper was so loved and so happy at the Dreamhouse, he ruled the roost and all the dogs fell in line, it was his way or no way and that is what he got. He lived his final 8 days rocking it out and being full on loved hard by THE BEST VET I KNOW and by his bitches, Lindsay and Jes. I would have had it no other way. Those gals gave him first class care and were the first family to ever love him, spoil him and spa him...yes he had SPA days! Thumper will be laid to rest on the property of his adopter in Woodstock NY., where he will always be with his amazing father. We find peace in knowing that his new life gave misery a run for its money. In true harmony he found his peace and did not suffer in the end. Today the universe took you home THUMP, you were the most loved dog there ever was."
