A heartbreaking message from a rescuer trying to save a puppy who cannot breathe.
This is happening now! We have a CODE RED for an 8 week old puppy who was in the shelter and can't breathe. I have a heartbreaking message from our partner Jennifer Brooks of SCR NY, “There are a lot of grown women in tears right now. My coffee barely touched my lips and my friend called me crying in hysterics to ask if SCR could jump in and save this puppy. Harley has less than an hour to find rescue placement and the shelter has to make a decision. I want to help her but guys we have 6 emergencies right now and our funds are at a dangerous level.”
“The nearest ER specialty center is an hour away and I truthfully don't know if we will have the funds to cover this bill or if she will even make the damn ride. They want me to make a decision and I'm not sure that I can make it at this point - She cannot breathe. This puppy needs a miracle right now and I am begging all of you to make this possible."
Jennifer pleaded with supporters on social media. "I am trying to be as transparent as possible here and this is a very difficult position to be in. This little girl needs a Hail Mary. If you can share, pledge, donate, RIGHT NOW is the time to do that. I also need everyone to hold a positive space in their hearts for her. I do not want today to be the day this little baby leaves behind a brother who is also in the shelter. She is suffering and deserves a chance, we are trying to locate a nearby volunteer.”
Vet care is not free, especially an emergency center, they require FULL payment up front. Yes it stinks but this is a reality and this will probably be at least $2,000 to walk in the door. Second Chance Rescue is tapped out and sometimes they feel like we are the only rescue in NY. Please help Harley!

UPDATE 7-9-17: Harley continues to keep struggling to breathe ...But, we now have our answers and we are shocked and horrified about what set off the very complex domino effect that has led to this puppies gasping for air. Hold on tight because this is about to get very complicated. The specialists were all perplexed to see that 3 different sets of xrays looked totally different... then you won't believe what they figured out next. Harley has a hyatal hernia that is pushing up erratically into her esophagus which is causing her to regurgitate her food and aspirate, which has now turned into severe pneumonia. How did this all start, hold on to your britches because upon hearing this will send you into rage. Harley suffered a blunt force trauma to her neck/throat that as a result has cause a major swelling/obstruction to her larynx which is depriving her of oxygen... she is unable to adequately breathe which as a result caused the hyatial Hernia. The shelter volunteers did note that upon being surrendered to the shelter alongside her brother, a knot was discovered on her neck and she was fearful and flinched if you came near her. The internist has confirmed that this is indeed true. Harley is fighting for her life as we speak and has a tube down her throat because someone hurt our precious puppy. An hour ago the Dr had no choice but to put her under anesthesia (major risk considering her severe pneumonia) in order to send the camera down for a video X-Ray. This gets so much more complicated, once the anesthesia tube comes out, her larynx will swell even more but they had no choice. The tube is about to come out and her rescuers are pretty certain that her already labored/compromised breathing is about to become significantly worse. They will then put her in an oxygen chamber and if she struggles more... well they will put her under again and do a tracheotomy . At his moment we are asking all of you to just pray and send this puppy the strength she needs to survive. Her rescuers have named her Harley because she is American made and will be Built to last. They committed to this dog no matter how much it costs to save her life and make no mistake, no stone will be left unturned.
This is where we are asking for your help! We have partnered with SCR to create these animal saving shirts, sweaters and accessories to raise the funds needed to save this innocent victim. With your help they can save her from this unthinkable abuse and neglect. Everything from a tee to a bracelet can help this tiny baby heal both mentally and physically.
