Velma was called an "Ugly Creature"!
Rescuers and volunteers in Texas spent hours trying to capture this girl. She had been roaming the streets for weeks. A good Samaritan tried feeding her and earning her trust despite the neighbors yelling at her, “do not feed that ugly creature”! Can you believe that!
The good Samaritan was able to help capture her with some amazing volunteers on the ground. It took a village to save her. Dallas Dog RRR gave her a name for the first time in her life, Velma. We love you Velma.
Her skin is inflamed and swollen with water from infection and puncture wounds all of her body. This is evidence she has been attacked. Rescuers took her off the streets and rushed her to their emergency vets.
Velma had 104.1 fever upon arrival. Her skin is infected and swollen from infection. Velma has started antibiotics because she is anaplasmosis positive, a tick-borne disease that infects a dog's bloodstream wreaking havoc on the body. Velma is anemic and dehydrated. She is super sweet and is scared but shows nothing but love. She is on the way to a beautiful creature instead of the “ugly creature” she was once called.
This type of care costs Dallas Dog RRR hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Her medical care is costly but she has not given up and NEITHER will DDRRR! We are sponsoring Velma’s care with one of our animal saving tees you see below. If you can consider one for yourself or a friend and help this innocent victim survive the condition she is in.
Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal-loving volunteers who support the abandoned dogs of Dallas, Texas, by collecting supplies, paying vet bills, locating foster families, facilitating adoptions, and advocating for a more hopeful future. We are often seen even in the trenches of SE Dallas searching for and rescuing forgotten dogs.
