Winston: Surrendered in horrible condition.
***** Winston UPDATE *****
Winston is showing improvements everyday. Although they are small, they are still significant for his condition. We found out Winston was kept outside and that is how his mange got so out of hand. He is figuring out life indoors, but does find the oddest places to retreat for a nap - laundry baskets and boxes seem to be his favorite safe spot.
He was terrified of the resident dogs until he realized they were actually potential playmates and they have helped him open up a lot in the last few days. Winston wears a t-shirt to cover his skin. It's very sensitive and with his medication, all the scabs are beginning to fall off and new skin is being regenerated. Single hairs are popping up all over his body but fall out quickly as they are so thin and frail.
His body is functioning better now that he is in a routine. Structure is his best friend. He loves the water and getting a medicated bath every other day followed by an oatmeal massage. Every night he also gets a full body massage of coconut oil, which relieves the burn and sting of his sensitive skin.
He still needs your help! Please consider purchasing an item above to help us save this sweet boy!
***** Winston END UPDATE *****
WARNING : Animal neglect at its worst. Winston suffers from demodex mange. Winston is 7 months old, and came in at only 24 lbs. His entire body is hot to the touch, has no hair, and is crusty with lacerations that are bleeding and full of puss. He was turned in to Kane County Animal Control last week and when Players for Pits saw him and his brother they couldn't resist.
What we know is that someone was not a responsible dog owner to Winston before and they neglected him. For his mange to be this bad takes months upon months to happen. The shelter is investigating this case. We will keep you posted. But he has a good team in his corner and his foster mom has already started his at home treatments! Every night, he gets a coconut oil massage and you can literally see the instant relief he has on his hot skin.
We really don't know what Winston will look like when he's fully recovered, but we can't wait to find out! Thank you to his foster mom Jess for being so incredible to Winston!
Now we need your help. His recovery is going to be very expensive and extensive. With your help we can save this baby boy and his brother and see them both lives healthy and happy lives. Please consider purchasing one of our animal-saving product above.
