Winter was used to make puppies as bait then dumped by frozen lake.
Alone, scared and betrayed. Help us give this innocent baby a second chance. A call came in regarding a dog dumped in a wooded area of a park in a rough area of Queens NY. Our partners at Second Chance Rescue rushed to the scene. They knew if they didn’t get there in time that she would freeze to death. There were no puppies found. She was dumped alone.
When volunteers arrived it was obvious Winter was dumped, she is what volunteers call in rescue a Throw-away mama. She was terrified, her body was shaking. Even worse is her body is covered in scars. Sadly we can tell that this poor girl Probably never had a good day in her life. She was used as money maker, a puppy machine to some thug looking to make a quick buck. This is far to common for dog fighting rings. After they were done with her they dumped her to die.
Winter is not ok. Winter was used as a bait dog. Her stomach is extremely bloated and SCR fears there is an obstruction. Rescuers believe Winter ate whatever she could to survive and now they are dealing with a scary situation. She needs an emergency ultra sound, X-rays, blood work to determine the extent of the damage and if surgery is necessary. On top of her medical problems Winter will not walk outside, her body hits the floor in total fear. And during these bouts of fear she loses control of her body and goes to the bathroom. She doesn't want to move, she doesn't want to leave.
The preliminary estimate is over 2,000 dollars to try and save Winter. That is just not the type of funds Second Chance Rescue NYC has. They have exhausted all avenues and now we have stepped in to help in our own little way. We have created the Animal Abuse Awareness shirts, hoodies, totes and bracelets you see below. We ask that if you would consider one of these items for your Christmas gift list. It's a great gift to give to family and friends and you get to tell them not only did they get a cute shirt but they helped save Winter. Please help.
Medically Winter is now stable. Her bloating is going down and the ultra sound and X-rays show no obvious obstructions that would require emergency surgery. Considering the abuse Winter has endured, we are surprised that she has no major medical issues even though it initially appeared that way. She is still very terrified of people but coming along well. She now lifts her head to look up at our volunteers and even wags her tail when she sees familiar faces! Winter's medical bills are in the thousands so we ask that you please consider purchasing one of her tees, hoodies or totes for your family and friends this holiday season.
