Gertie's body is swollen with worms.
We have created this product campaign to help raise the funds needed to save dog whose body is full of worms.
Gertie was just rescued from South Texas where shelter staff thought she was just pregnant but she is not. Her lungs and the right side of her heart is all but consumed by heartworms. Her body is swollen with worms.
If left untreated, this condition will lead to certain death. So her rescuers have rushed Gertie to the surgeons at Texas A&M. She is getting surgery as we speak.
Doctors have no choice but to perform the surgery to literally physically remove the worms. This is the only way to save her.
Sadly, Gertie is not even three years old and was abandoned in this condition and rescuers will not let that be the last thing she experiences. The Texas A&M team have performed this surgery many times with huge success. Rescuers were quoted $4,000 for the surgery.
The team at Dallas Dog RRR have committed to saving Gertie’s life no matter the cost. We support their decision and have created this campaign to help in funding her life saving surgery.
Please consider purchasing one of her shirts, hoodies, totes, mugs or socks to help raise the funds for her care. With every purchase you can help rescuers give this baby girl the care she deserves.
RIP: We have devastating new from Patti the founder at Dallas Dog RRR. We're sorry to report Gertie didn't make it through surgery. Patti is absolutely heartbroken. Her team put everything into trying to save this dog's life. Our hearts are broken, our souls deflated. Patti wrote, "We had to try, and we thank you for helping us give her the best shot. We thank the volunteers that drove her, and we thank those that operated on her. She had about 20 worms removed, but went into arrest just about the time they were getting ready to close her up. A pacemaker was quickly placed, and while she initially returned to life, she passed about 15 minutes later and could not be revived. She passed in the arms of her rescuers." Dallas Dog RRR said that she was worth the surgery and worth the risk to try and save her life. Without question. Had they not taken that chance, her death was imminent. Please understand how devastating this is for Patti and her volunteers. This is the hardest part of rescue. The frustrating part is all of this could have been avoided with proper care. Please take some time to send some love to Patti and her team at Dallas Dog RRR.
