Pebbles is in a medically induced coma
We have created this product campaign to help raise the funds needed to save dog in a medically induced coma.Pebbles was severely injured 2 days ago in her own home. Another dog in the home, who is aggressive, broke out of his crate, and also got through a door, when the family was not at home. Sadly, the family did not have the funds to get Pebbles the emergency care that she needed, and they have surrendered her over to Second Chance Rescue NYC. She will not be going back.
Pebbles is STILL fighting for her life at the 24-hour emergency specialty. She is up against a lot, but rescues have made a promise to not turn their backs on her. She is still being treated for multiple severe dog bite wounds, puncture, lacerations to head, neck, and chest. The major cause for concern right now is the deep laceration in her neck with a tear in her trachea.
She has been stabilized, but She has a pneumomediastinum and mild pneumothorax. She was exhibiting a cardiac arrhythmia, that has improved. There is still concern of low protein levels (hypoalbuminemia) associated with severe tissue damage and wounds. There are still signs of acute kidney injury secondary to the Systemic effects of severe muscle trauma.
She is in a medically induced COMA. The major surgery today will be because her trachea was compromised. Her nerve damage is severe and the concern is that larynx is not functioning.
Update 11-3-18: Pebbles' larynx tie back surgery was performed. This will give her the ability to breathe on her own. The doctors pulled back on the meds to wake her from the coma and she is responsive.
As well as the tie back, many of Pebbles wounds were closed. Some are so badly infected that they cannot be closed at this moment. Along with all of this - Pebbles has lost the natural ability to regulate her own body temperature.
Update 12-16-18: Pebbles is now in a medical foster and will need to go back to the Specialty Center once a week for treatments and her wound care. This news is incredible because just two weeks ago this pup did not have a chance. They did surgery to repair her leg. The surgeon who did her surgeries needs to do a weekly Spica bandage change. The biggest concern is trying to keep Pebbles leg. She will need to be kept in an environment with a temperature of 70 degrees or lower because she cannot regulate her body temperature due to the nerve clusters that were torn out of her during the attack. Words cannot express how thankful we are to all of you for helping save Pebbles life.
Update 5-31-18: Pebbles went from being in a medically induced coma to after 5 months of rehab is ready for her forever family. Pebbles was attacked in her home by an aggressive dog and was surrendered to SCR. She needed to heal both physically and mentally and that takes months of rehabilitation. Now she needs your help! She is ready to find her forever home. Pebbles foster mom says she’s has opened and come a long way in the few months that she has been with her. She says she shy, scared and takes some time to warm up. Pebbles has been overcoming her fears and is playing with her fur-sibling and has started to venture off the porch more and more on her own. Pebbles is waiting for her perfect family is that you apply today for her at nycsecondchancerescue.org
